CLAYTON, Mo. - Webster sent a combined 14 runners here Friday evening to compete in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs at the WashU Distance Carnival held at Bushyhead Track in Francis Field on the WashU campus.
The Gorloks sent seven female and seven males runners to the WashU Distance Carnival, as all seven of the Gorlok female runners ran the 5,000-meter run, while six of the seven male runners competed in the 5,000-meter run, while the other Gorlok ran the 10,000-meter run.
In the 10,000-meter run, Webster sent junior Abram Donvan (Saint Paul, Minn./Highland Park) to compete and he place 92nd with a time of 37:00.83. Friday's 10,000-meter run featured 101 runners from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA, along with unattached athletes.
Nearly 232 competitors hit the track in the men's 5,000-mete run as Webster sent six runners to the event. The highest finish in the event by a Gorlok came from sophomore Nathan Freyling (Arnold, Mo./Fox) as he ran a time of 15:55.34 to place in 94th place overall. Freshman Javier Cervantes (Garden City, Kan./Garden City) was 133rd with a time of 16:22.22, while freshman Colton Vaughn (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) placed 163rd overball with a time of 16:46.05. The other three finishers for the Gorloks were Eli Guzman (Parkville, Mo/Park Hill South) was 167th with a time of 16:48.46 to place 167th overall, while senior Jordan Benton (Wentzville, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North) was 204th with a time of 18:08.03 and junior Paul Mueller (Red Bud, Ill./Red Bud) was 219th overall with a time of 20:03.34.
Missouri State's Gidieon Kimutai won the men's 5,000 meter event with a time of 14:24.38.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, freshman Taylor Dunning (Chester, Ill./Chester) was Webster's top finisher with a time of 19:29.68 to place 95th overall. In addition to Dunning, sophomore Kalleigh Linthicum (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) was right behind Dunning in 96th place with a time of 19:39.28. Freshman Lindsay Poitras (Imperial, Mo./Fox) was 138th with a time of 21:02.07 and freshman Cora Reed (Manchester, Mo./Parkway South) placed 145th overall with a time of 21;31.13. The final three competitors for the Gorloks were junior Savannah Brewer (Flagstaff, Ariz./Coconino) was 148th overall with a time of 21:43.62, junior Jessica Phibbs (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View) placed 150th overall with a time of 21:49.84 and junior Megan Schramm (Rochelle, Ill./Rochelle) was 153rd overall with a time of 22:21.99 .
Milwaukee's Emily Royston won the 5,000-meter event at the WashU Distance Carnival with a time of 17:12.63.
The remainder of the Webster men's and women's track and field team will compete on Saturday, March 30 at the John Creer Invitational hosted by Lindenwood University and held in St. Charles, Mo., on the Lindenwood campus.
