Taylor Jackson (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin) and junior
Breelyn Craig (Victorville, Calif./Trinidad State) were named this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Jackson and Craig are the first Gorloks to earn SLIAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors this season and the first since senior third baseman
Brienna Sheperd (Central Point, Ore./College of the Redwoods) and junior pitcher
Kaitlyn Johnson (East Alton, Ill./Greenville University) were honored last season on March 12, 2018.
Jackson, who plays left field for the Gorloks, earns this week's SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week honor after recording a .600 batting average, while hitting two home runs and driving home seven runs to lead the Gorloks to a 3-1 record on the week. Additionally, Jackson had a pair of multi-hit games, including a three-hit outing in a 7-1 win over Principia this past Saturday. Jackson also drove home five of Webster's 14 runs in a 14-4 win against MacMurray this past Tuesday. She finished the week with a 1.600 slugging percentage and a .714 on-base percentage and scored a total of five runs, including three runs in the 7-1 win over Principia.
On the season, Jackson leads the Gorloks in numerous offensive categories as she leads the team in batting average (.372), hits (32), doubles (6), triples (2), and is second in both runs scored (20) and RBI (19). In addition, she also has had eight multi-hit games, including a team-best three 3-hit games.
Craig, who is a pitcher for the Gorloks, earns the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up a pair of wins and compiling an 0.58 ERA for the Gorloks this past week. On the week, Craig worked 12.0 innings and allowed six hits, one run, walked three and strick out 15, including setting new season highs for strikeouts in back-to-back games as she had seven in an 8-0 win over MacMurray and then recorded eight strikeouts in a 7-1 win over Principia.
On the season, Craig leads the Gorloks in ERA (4.97), wins (6), strikeouts (53) and walks (29) and she has compiled a 6-5 record and has tossed three complete games and has made eight starts.
Jackson, Craig and the rest of the Gorloks (10-22 overall) are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 23 as they travel down Big Bend Blvd., for a doubleheader against WashU in Clayton, Mo. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., with the second game slated for 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
