2020-21 Gorlok Senior Spotlight: Rodson Etienne

WEBSTER GROVES – Throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year, the Webster University Athletics Department will feature Gorlok senior student-athletes. The senior student-athletes were asked 21 questions about their time at Webster, which will help everyone get the chance to know them as individuals and how much they've grown during their time as a Gorlok student-athlete.

The Senior Spotlight feature is scheduled to run every Monday and Friday until all the senior student-athletes have been profiled.

Our 19th and final Senior Spotlight of the 2020 calendar year features senior men's basketball forward Rodson Etienne (West Palm Beach, Fla./Royal Palm Beach).
  1. What is your name? What sport(s) do you play? Rodson Etienne, Men's Basketball.

  2. What is your major? I am majoring in Sports Communication with a minor in Business.

  3. How many years have you been a student at Webster? This is my fourth year at Webster.

  4. What attracted you to attend school and compete in athletics at Webster University? I was recruited by Webster University after attending a showcase during my senior year of high school. I came for a visit over the summer and just knew this was a good fit for me.

  5. What are your plans after graduation? I plan on going overseas for a few years to play basketball and if that doesn't go well, my back-up plan is starting a business.

  6. What has been your favorite class at Webster and why? My favorite class at Webster has been Contemporary Morality Problems. This class was my favorite because it taught us about problems we're facing on this planet and how we can fix them.

  7. What is your most memorable athletic moment at Webster? Winning the SLIAC Tournament title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season was the best feeling ever.

  8. What is your most memorable/best academic experience at Webster? Getting all A's and B's during the second semester of my sophomore year. I felt really good about that.

  9. Outside of sports, what is your favorite hobby or activity? I play a lot of video games, plus I also cook and watch movies.

  10. What is your favorite food? Movie? Book? TV show? My favorite food is Chicken Alfredo, my favorite book is The Outsiders, my favorite movie is White Chicks and my favorite television show is Blacklist.

  11. What is your pet peeve? Repeating myself multiple times.

  12. Would you consider yourself a morning or a night person? I am definitely a night person.

  13. What is your typical pre-game meal? Peanut butter sandwich with bananas.

  14. What are your typical game day rituals? Attend shoot around, take a quick nap and listen to my game day playlist.

  15. What Webster University faculty or staff member has had the greatest impact on you and why? Webster Athletics Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Saitz. Coach Saitz always does a great job of getting us ready for the season with morning workouts.

  16. What do you enjoy most and least about practice? Scrimmaging is my favorite part of practice and my least favorite part of practice is rebounding drills.

  17. What advice would you give to underclassmen at Webster University? I would advise them to stick with it and listen to Coach Bunch because he knows what he's doing. Like he always says, "I got a method to my madness."

  18. If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be and why? Like Me Real Hard by Mario and the only reason why I choose that song is because that song speaks to me.

  19. What is a funny story that you can tell about your coach or about your team that people might not know? The funniest story now that wasn't so funny when it happened was when we pissed off Coach Bunch our freshman year and he ran us to death at practice.

  20. What is something that people may not know about you, but should? I love to watch anime, not a lot of people know that about me, but I think they should.

  21. If you could spend an hour with three people (past or present), who would you choose and why? From the past, I would spend time with my grandfather who died when I was very young and also from the past, I would like to spend an hour with Kobe Bryant because I admire him a lot and from the present, I would choose Paul Pierce, because he's my all-time favorite basketball player.
