2010s All-Decade Teams: Women's Tennis

WEBSTER GROVES – Webster University Athletics has begun unveiling of its All-Decade Teams from the 2010s as it compiles the best student-athletes across the past 10 seasons (2010-19) in each of Webster's intercollegiate athletic teams. Our 11th team to be unveiled is the 2010-19 All-Decade Women's Tennis Team.
 
During the decade, the Gorloks captured five regular season St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles (2010, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018). Along with winning five regular season SLIAC titles, Webster also won SLIAC Tournament titles in 2012, 2015 and 2018 and earned three trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament, including winning its first-ever tournament match in 2015 with a 5-0 win over Hanover College and took home three SLIAC Tournament runner-up finishes. The Gorloks posted a 120-66 overall record in the decade and went 46-8 in league play, including posting five perfect seasons in SLIAC action. Webster won at least 10 matches in seven of the 10 seasons, including a school record 19 wins in 2012. In addition, the Gorloks earned three Coach of the Year accolades as Mike Siener took home the honors in both 2010 and 2012 and Martha Davis-Goldstein earned the honor in 2015.
 
Along with their success on the court, that success also brought recognition for Webster's players as the 11 players on the All-Decade Team earned All-SLIAC honors a combined 72 times, including earning first team accolades a combined 34 times and three players All-SLIAC honors in both singles and doubles all four years – Monica Behrle, Jesse Steffens-Willis and Madison Watts. During the last 10 years, two Gorloks on the All-Decade Team earned SLIAC Player of the Year honors – Behrle and Marissa Lewis and one player – Behrle – earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors.
 
Additionally, the members of the All-Decade Team earned a combined 25 ITA Scholar Athlete honors and 24 SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selections. In addition, the members of the All-Decade Team earned a combined 20 SLIAC Player of the Week honors, including Behrle taking home 12 of those Player of the Week accolades.
 
Listed below is the 11-member Webster Athletics Women's Tennis Team of the Decade for the 2010s. Players were selected by former head coaches Siener and Davis-Goldstein and are listed alphabetically.
 
Monica Behrle (Atlanta, Ga. – 2015-18)
During her four year career as a Gorlok, Behrle was named an eight-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned four All-SLIAC selections in both singles and doubles, including earning First-Team honors in singles and doubles in 2015 and 2018. In addition to her eight All-SLIAC selections, she was also named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2015 and the SLIAC Player of the Year in 2018. Behrle was the third Gorlok in school history to earn SLIAC Player of the Year honors. Additionally, she was a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete selection in 2016 and 2018, a two-time member of the SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team in 2016 and 2018 and took home the Webster Athletics President's Award in 2017-18. She also earned 12 SLIAC Player of the Week accolades in her career, including earning four honors in both 2018 and 2017. Behrle holds the school's all-time record for both singles wins (69) and doubles wins (58) and also holds the school's single season mark for single wins with 21 in 2015. She posted a 69-22 career record in singles, including a 46-17 record at the No. 1 spot and a 58-31 career mark in doubles, including a 31-17 mark at the No. 1 spot. Her .758 win percentage in singles is fifth on the school's all-time list, while her .652 winning percentage in doubles is ninth in school history. In addition, she went 18-2 in career singles and 16-2 in career doubles action in SLIAC play.
 
Chelsea Foster (St. Louis, Mo. – 2014-17)
In the middle of the decade, Foster lettered for four years as a Gorlok and in that time, she was a four-time All-SLIAC selection as she was honored twice in both singles (2015 and 2017) and doubles (2015 and 2017). Along with her four All-SLIAC selections, she was a two-time First-Team All-SLIAC honoree in singles in 2015 and 2017 and earned first team honors in doubles in 2015. Additionally, she was an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2017. During her career, Foster posted a 20-23 overall record in singles and a 30-28 mark in doubles. Her 30 career doubles wins are tied for 12th on the school's all-time list and is one of 17 Webster women's tennis players to win at least 20 career matches in singles. In SLIAC play, she was 12-3 in singles and 12-4 in doubles. She played primarily at No. 3 doubles as she posted a 25-18 record and played a combined 26 career matches at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. 
 
Lindsey Hays (St. Charles, Mo. – 2010-13)
In the first four years of the decade, Hays earned seven All-SLIAC selections, including being a four-time All-SLIAC selection in doubles and three-time selection (2010, 2011, and 2012) in singles. She was a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection and earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors in doubles in 2010. Along with her seven All-SLIAC selections, Hays also was a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete and a SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection in both 2012 and 2013. During her career, she posted a 55-12 career record in singles and a 52-16 mark in doubles. Her 55 career singles wins are third on the school's all-time list, while her 52 career doubles wins are tied for second most in school history. She tallied at least 12 wins in singles at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 in her career, including going 20-1 at No. 3 singles and she won 24 matches each at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Tallied an 18-3 career record in singles and a 17-4 career mark in doubles in SLIAC play. Hays won 16 games in singles in 2016 and those 16 wins are tied for fifth on the school's single season chart, while her 16 doubles wins in 2010 are tied for second on the single season doubles chart. Her .765 career winning percentage in doubles is second best in school history and her .889 career singles winning percentage is fourth on the school's single season chart.
 
Kaylen Kress (Bartlett, Ill. – 2013-16)
Kress lettered for four years as a Gorlok and in those four years, she was a six-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned three honors each in both singles and doubles in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Along with six SLIAC selections, Kress earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors in both singles and doubles in 2015. In addition, she was a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and was also a three-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection those same three years. Additionally, she was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team in 2015 and also earned Webster Athletics' President's Award in 2015-16. In her time at Webster, Kress, who served as an assistant for the Gorloks for several years at the end of the decade, posted a 49-21 career singles record and a 49-28 career record in doubles. Her 49 wins in both singles and doubles are fourth on the school's all-time list. She went a combined 43-19 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and went 34-22 in her career at No. 1 doubles. In SLIAC play, she went 18-2 in singles and 16-4 in doubles.  
 
Stephanie Lass (Lake Villa, Ill. – 2015-17)
In her three years as a Gorlok, Lass was a six-time All-SLIAC selection and she earned honors in both singles and doubles in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Along with her six All-SLIAC selections, she was a two-time First-Team honoree in singles in 2016 and 2017 and a First-Team selection in doubles in 2015. Additionally, Lass was a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete (2015, 2016 and 2017) and a two-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection (2016 and 2017). During her Gorlok career, she posted a 35-21 career record in singles, including winning a school record 21 of those matches at No. 6 singles and was 30-22 in career doubles, including going 27-19 at No. 3 doubles. Went 13-2 in SLIAC play in singles and tallied an 11-1 mark in doubles in SLIAC play.
 
Marissa Lewis (Owasso, Okla. – 2012, '14-15)
Early in the decade, Lewis made her mark on the tennis court for the Gorloks as in her three seasons, she was a six-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned three honors each in both singles and doubles. Along with her six All-SLIAC selections, she earned First-Team All-SLIAC accolades in both singles (2012 and 2014) and doubles (2012 and 2015) as a Gorlok. In addition, she was named the SLIAC Player of the Year in 2014 and earned five career SLIAC Player of the Week honors as she was honored three times in 2014 and two times in 2015. Additionally, she was a two-time member of the SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team (2014 and 2015) and earned an ITA Scholar Athlete Award in 2014. During her Webster career, Lewis won 46 career singles matches and posted a 46-11 record, while tallying 43 career doubles wins and posted a 43-17 record. Her 46 career singles wins are fifth on the school's all-time list, while her .807 career winning percentage is third on the school's all-time list. In addition, her 43 doubles wins are seventh on the all-time school list and her .717 career winning percentage in doubles is fifth on the school's all-time list. She won 18 matches in 2012 and those 18 singles wins are tied for second most in a season in school history, while her 16 doubles wins in 2012 are also tied for second most on the school's single season list. Went 16-1 in singles and 15-2 in doubles in SLIAC play.
 
Sara Rice (Mahomet, Ill. – 2016-19)
Rice played for the Gorloks in the last four years of the decade and in her time at Webster, she was a seven-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned All-SLIAC honors in doubles all four years and was a three-time honoree in singles (2016, 2017 and 2018). Along with being a seven-time All-SLIAC selection, Rice earned First-Team All-SLIAC honors in singles in 2016 and 2018. In addition, she was a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was a three-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She posted a 39-31 career record in singles and 36-40 in doubles. The 39 singles wins are eighth on the school's all-time list and the 36 doubles wins are 10th on the school's career chart. Posted a 25-10 mark at No. 4 singles and also played 11 career matches at No. 1 singles, six matches at No. 2 singles and 15 matches at No. 3 singles and was 20-21 at No. 2 doubles and 11-14 at No. 1 doubles. In SLIAC play, went 15-3 in singles and 15-3 in doubles.   
 
Jesse Steffens-Willis (St. Louis, Mo. – 2015-18)
Steffens-Willis lettered for four years at Webster and in those four years, she was an eight-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned honors in both singles and doubles four times and is one of only three players on the All-Decade Team to earn All-SLIAC honors eight times. Along with her eight All-SLIAC selections, she was a first team honoree in singles in 2018 and a first team honoree in 2015. Additionally, Steffens-Willis was a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete and a three-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively. Tallied a 42-38 career record in singles and posted a 48-37 career mark in doubles. Her 42 career singles wins are seventh on the school's all-time list and her 48 career doubles wins are also fifth on the school's all-time list. She went 12-6 in No. 3 singles, 17-16 in No. 4 singles and 11-12 in No. 5 singles and was 27-21 in No. 2 doubles and 16-12 in No. 3 doubles. Went 17-2 in singles and 17-1 in doubles in SLIAC play.
 
Allison Tungate (Flora, Ill. – 2009-12)
Tungate's career spanned two decades as she played one season in the 2000s (2009) and her final three years in the 2010s (2010-12). She was named a seven-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned four All-SLIAC selections in singles and three selections in doubles, including taking home first team honors in singles in 2009, 2011 and 2012 and first team accolades in doubles in 2012. Along with her seven All-SLIAC honorees, she was named to the SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team in both 2010 and 2012 and was tabbed an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2012. Additionally, she earned SLIAC Player of the Week two times in her career. In her career, she ranks second in career singles wins with 58 and is tied for second in career doubles wins with 52. She posted a 58-10 all-time record in singles and her .853 winning percentage is tops on the school's all-time list, while she tallied a 52-18 record in doubles and her .743 winning percentage in doubles is third in school history. Tungate, who went 24-1 in singles and 22-3 in doubles in SLIAC play as a Gorlok, posted a 32-3 career record at No. 2 singles and had a career 44-15 mark in doubles. She also holds the school record for single season doubles wins with 17 as she went 17-3 in 2012 and her 18 singles wins in 2012 are tied for second most on the school's single season chart.
 
Paige Tungate (Flora, Ill. – 2009-12)
Another Gorlok whose career that spanned two decades as she began her career in 2009 and played the final three years of the decade in 2010-12. As a Gorlok, Tungate, whose twin sister, Allison, is also a member of the All-Decade Team, was a six-time All-SLIAC selection as she earned three honors in singles in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and three honors in doubles in 2009, 2011 and 2012. In addition, she earned first team honors in singles in 2010 and doubles in 2012. Additionally, she was a two-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team selection (2010 and 2012) and was named an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2012. Recorded a 45-21 career record in singles and a 46-19 career mark in doubles. Her 45 career singles wins are sixth on the school's all-time list, while her 46 career doubles are also sixth on the school's all-time list. In her time at Webster, she played the No. 1 through No. 5 spots in singles, including posting a 21-9 combined mark at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and went 34-16 at No. 1 doubles. As a senior in 2012, she won 16 doubles matches and that is tied for second most in a season in school history. She recorded an 18-5 record in singles and a 19-4 mark in doubles in SLIAC play in her collegiate career.
 
Madison Watts (Rogersville, Mo. – 2016-19)
Watts played the final four years of the decade and in those four seasons, she was one of three players on the All-Decade Team to earn eight All-SLIAC selections as she tabbed All-SLIAC all four years in both singles and doubles, including closing her career with three consecutive first team honors in singles (2017, 2018 and 2019) and being a first team selection in doubles in 2018. Along with earning eight All-SLIAC selections, Watts was tabbed a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete and a three-time SLIAC Spring All-Academic Team honoree (2017, 2018, and 2019). Additionally, she was a SLIAC Player of the Week in 2018 and was a finalist for the ITA Ann Lebedoff Leadership Award in 2018-19. In her Gorlok career, Watts tallied a 30-30 record in singles and a 43-29 mark in doubles. Her 43 wins in doubles are tied for seventh on the school's all-time list and she 19-12 at No. 2 singles and recorded a 28-19 mark at No. 1 doubles. Went 14-2 in singles and 15-2 in doubles in SLIAC play as a Gorlok.
