Track Teams Compete at Harding's NextEra Energy Bison Twilight Meet

SEARCY, Ark. – Webster University sent a total of 10 student-athletes to compete here Thursday at the NextEra Energy Bison Twilight Meet hosted by Harding University.

At the event, which featured a total of 23 men's and women's teams from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA schools, the Gorloks competed in eight events as the men competed in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 800-meter run, 5,000-meter run, 10,000-meter run and the high jump, while the women's team competed in the 800-meter run, 100 and 400-meter hurdles.

On the women's side, sophomore Danielle Schultz (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) took home first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.67, which was 40 hundredths of second shy of her season-best time of 2:16.27 in the event at last week's Indiana State Pacesetter Sports Invitational, while senior Vanessa Jones (Orlando, Fla./Lake Minneola) recorded two season best marks in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles.  In the 100-meter hurdles, Jones recorded a time of 15.63, which is the second best time in the event in school history, to finish second and she was third in the 400-meter hurdles with a Webster season best time of 1:11.62.

Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Gorloks competed in six events and set new season best marks in three of those events. In addition to recording three new season best marks, senior Nathan Freyling (Fenton, Mo./Fox) also set a new school record in the 10,000-meter run as he ran a time of 32:04.48, which bettered the old school record of 32:44.77 set by Jason Hickson at WashU in 2015.

Freyling's school record in the 10,000-meter run helped him finish first in the event and he averaged 16:02 for each 5K.

Along with Freyling's school record in the 10,000-meter run, senior All-American Jacob Ridenhour (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) made his outdoor season debut as he ran the 100-meter dash in a season best time of 11.15. Ridenhour, who qualified in both the 100 and 200-meters at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, was leading through 70 meters, before pulling his hamstring again as he finished seventh in the event overall.

After reinjuring his hamstring, Ridenour did not compete in the 200-meter dash as he is the defending Division III National runner-up in the 200 meters and the Gorloks also did not run in the 4-x-100-meter realymm

In the 200-meter dash, senior Carson Gross (Arnold, Mo./Fox) ran a Webster season best time of 22.37 to finish in sixth place. In addition to Gross, junior Elijah Perez (Waynesville, Mo./Waynesville) was 10th with a season best time of 22.64 and freshman Steven Aubuchon (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) was 11th with a lifetime best time of 23.00.

Aubuchon also recorded a college best time in the 100-meter dash on Thursday as he ran a time of 11.32 to finish in ninth place.

In the high jump, freshman Armond Williams (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) was second with a mark of 1.84 meter (6-0.50"). The mark was one centimeter less than his season best.

Sophomore Kaelin Triggs (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.91 and sophomore Cameron Sakuma (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) was fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:35.05.

The Gorlok men and women's outdoor track teams have more chance to earn a qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Ourdoo

The Gorlok men and women outdoor track teams are scheduled to return to action next Thursday at a meet to be determined. One of the meets under consideration is a Last Chance Qualifier at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
