Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this evening when they traveled to Springfield, Illinois, to take on the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars for an exhibition game. The Gorloks fell to the Prairie Stars by a final score of 99-54.
Webster went 21-for-44 (47.7%) from the floor and 7-for-16 (43.8%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Prairie Stars by a final count of 26-22 and forced two turnovers in the contest.
The Gorloks got off to a good start in this one as they jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in the first six minutes of the game. The Prairie Stars answered back and went on a 24-7 run over the next six minutes to take a 30-17 lead in the game. Illinois-Springfield continued to push the tempo down the final stretch of the half and took a 52-30 lead into the locker room.
The Prairie Stars carried over their momentum into the second half and grew their lead to 30 midway through the period. Webster tried to get back into the game but the damage had been done as the Prairie Stars closed them out down the stretch to solidify the win.
Jason Coleman led the way for the Gorloks as he finished with a team high 13 points.
Alpha Diallo and
Nate Jones also finished in double figures as Diallo finished with 12 while Jones posted 11.
Webster will be back in action on Wednesday, January 4
th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to open up conference play against Spalding (Ky.) University. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. EST.
