ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced the Men's Track & Field Preseason Coaches Poll for the 2022-23 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The Gorloks were picked to finish third in the poll after receiving 38 points. Greenville (Ill.) University was picked to win the conference as they finished with 49 points in the poll.
The Gorloks return 11 athletes from last years team that finished third in the SLIAC Indoor Championships and second in the SLIAC Outdoor Championships. In addition to the returners, the Gorloks also welcome in one newcomer.
Elijah Perez, a graduate student out of Waynesville, Missouri, is the reigning SLIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. He earned ALL-SLIAC honors in five events last season including the 200-meter (indoor/outdoor), 400-meter (outdoor), 4x100 relay (outdoor), and the 4x400 relay (outdoor).
In addition to Perez, the Gorloks return seven athletes who earned All-SLIAC honors last season including
Sam Baker,
Cameron Sakuma,
Armond Williams,
Joshua Clark,
Landon Garland,
Steven Aubuchon, and
Kaelin Triggs. Baker, a senior out of Memphis, Tennessee, earned All-SLIAC recognition in the 1 mile (indoor), 4x400-meter relay (indoor), and the 3,000-meter steeplechase (outdoor). Sakuma, a senior out of O'Fallon, Missouri, earned All-SLIAC honors in the 3,000-meter (indoor) and the 10,000-meter (outdoor). Williams, a junior from Mascoutah, Illinois, was named All-SLIAC in the 60-meter hurdles (indoor), 110-meter hurdles (outdoor), and the 4x100-meter relay (outdoor). Clark, a sophomore out of St. Louis, Missouri, earned All-SLIAC recognition in the 4x400-meter relay (indoor/outdoor). Garland, a junior out of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, earned All-SLIAC honors in the 4x400-meter relay (indoor). Aubuchon, a junior from Sainte Genevieve, Missouri, was named All-SLIAC in the 4x100-meter relay (outdoor). Triggs, a senior out of St. Louis, Missouri, was named All-SLIAC in 800-meter (outdoor) and the 4x400-meter relay (outdoor).
The Gorloks will return to the track on Saturday, January 21
st when they travel to Jacksonville, Illinois, to compete in the Snow Bird Invite at Illinois College. The meet is set to start at 10 a.m.
