ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's basketball team was back in action this afternoon when they traveled to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Columbia (Mo.) College Cougars for an exhibition game. The Gorloks fell to the Cougars by a final score of 88-52.
The Gorloks went 21-for-60 (35.0%) from the floor and 2-for-19 (10.5%) from behind the arc. They were outrebounded by the Cougars by a final count of 54-31 with nine rebounds coming on the offensive end. They forced Columbia to turn the ball over 10 times in the game and turned those turnovers into nine points on the other end of the floor.
Webster came out in the first half and found themselves trailing 14-7 in the first seven minutes of the game. The Gorloks would cut the lead to five over the next few minutes, but a 20-2 run from the Cougars in the final seven minutes of the half would put them up 42-19 at the break.
Columbia carried over their momentum into the second half and grew their lead to 32 in the first three minutes of the frame. Webster would cut the lead back down to 25, but the Cougars would never let them back in the game as they cruised to the exhibition win.
Karl Moore Jr. was the top scorer for Webster as he finished with a team high 12 points. In addition,
Nate Jones and
Allen Grahovic each finished with seven points while
Justin Ugo and
Jemard Sykes II each had six.
Webster will return to the court on Thursday, January 4
th when they host the Spalding (Ky.) University Golden Eagles for a SLIAC matchup. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m. in Grant Gymnasium.
