KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Three members of the Webster University men's tennis team were back in action over the weekend when they traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to compete in the ITA Central Regional Championships.
Matthew Birchmeier,
Ethan Foucheaux, and
Carson Fisher competed for the Gorloks.
Birchmeier competed in the main draw for singles and fell in the first round to Joey Keal from Hanover (Ind.) College by final scores of 6-3 and 6-1. He then went on to the consolation bracket where he earned two byes before falling in the round of 32 to Grant Sarnowski from John Carroll (Ohio) University by final scores of 7-6 (3) and 6-0.
Foucheaux also competed in the main draw for singles and fell in the first round to Ethan Libby from Wittenberg (Ohio) University by final scores of 1-6, 7-6 (4), and 10-6. He then went on to receive two byes in the consolation bracket before losing to Kasper Olofsson from Adrian (Mich.) College by final scores of 6-4 and 6-4.
Lastly, Birchmeier and Fisher teamed up to compete in the doubles main draw. They fell in the first round to Grant Sarnowski and Logan Langovsky from John Carrol (Ohio) University by a final score of 8-0. They received two byes in the consolation bracket before defeating Alann Torress and Davis Housman from the Illinois Institute of Technology by a final score of 8-7 (3). They then went on to defeat Hudson Mosher and Teagan Crow from Depauw (Ind.) University in the round of 16 by a final score of 8-7 (4). The pairs run ended in the consolation quarterfinals as the team needed to make the trip back to St. Louis.
The men's tennis team will wrap up their fall season on Thursday, October 5
th when they host the Mississippi University for Women Owls. The match is set to start at 8 a.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
