WU’s Merritt Achieves Three Personal-Records; Secures First In Heptathlon After Day One At UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Webster University men's track & field program opened the 2024-25 indoor season with the first day of the heptathlon hosted by University of Indianapolis Friday evening. WU's Austin Merritt achieved three new personal-records in four events that secured the top overall spot in the field after day one of competition. 

In the 60m dash, Merritt achieved a new personal-record and a first-place medalist with a time of 7.24 seconds. 

In the long jump event, the junior conquered a new personal-record with a mark of 6.07m which earned second overall in the field. 

In the shot put event, the Freeburg, Illinois native set a new personal-record with a distance of 10.82m which secured first-place honors. 

Merritt closed out the day at the high jump pit where he cleared 1.75m that secured a first-place performance.

Merritt will be back on the track tomorrow Saturday, December 7 to close out the remainder of the heptathlon events.
