Merritt’s New Webster Decathlon School Record Earns SLIAC Field Athlete of the Week Honor

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released the names of the student-athletes who were named Player of the Week(s) for their respective competing sport for the week of  March 30 - April 5. WU's Austin Merritt set the new all-time Webster Decathlon school record with 5,732 points at the Central Methodist University Invite on April 2nd and 3rd.

Merritt, a native of Freeburg, Illinois won the 100m dash and set two new personal records in the Long Jump and the Discus at the CMU Invite.

In the 100m dash, he earned the gold medal with a time of 10.73 seconds that earned 922 points.

In the 400m dash, he recorded a time of 51.18 seconds that placed second overall and earned 761 points.

In the Long Jump, Merritt set a new personal record with a mark of 6.22m that secured fourth place and 635 points.

In the 110m hurdles, he recorded a time of 17.09 seconds that earned fourth place and 615 points.

In the High Jump, he posted a clearance of 1.78m that took home third place and 610 points.

In the Shot Put, Merritt recorded a mark of 11.59m that earned second place and 582 points.

In the Discus, he set a new personal record with a mark of 31.83m that earned 3rd place and 501 points.

In the Pole Vault, he recorded a clearance of 3.55m that earned second place and 496 points.

In the Javelin, he recorded a mark of 31.38m that earned fourth place and 319 points.

In the 1500m run, he crossed the finish line with a time of 5:53.63 that earned fifth place and 291 points.

With the addition of all 10 events, he set the new all-time Webster Decathlon school record with 5,732 points. 

With those 5,732 points earned, he shattered his own Webster Decathlon school record by 203 points.
