Gorloks Win Two Matches on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The men's tennis team was back in action yesterday when they traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois, to take on Illinois College and Westminster (Mo.) College for a nonconference doubleheader. The Gorloks won both matches as they defeated the Blue Boys by a final score of 8-1 before defeating the Blue Jays by a final score of 8-1 to improve to 6-9 on the season.

The Gorloks got off to great start against Illinois College as they swept the doubles portion of the match. Matthew Birchmeier and Carson Fisher won #1 doubles as they defeated Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway by a final score of 8-2. Ethan Foucheaux and Tyler Gonzales won #2 doubles over Andrus Dupre and Grayson Dupre by a final score of 8-2. Jack Forlenza and Robert McDaniel completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over Allen Oakley and Antonio Loaiza in #3 doubles.

Webster would go on to take five out of six points in the singles portion of the match. Ethan Foucheaux won #1 singles by final scores of 6-4 and 6-0. Matthew Birchmeier took #2 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Carson Fisher captured #3 singles by final scores of 7-6 and 6-3. Robert McDaniel won #4 singles by final scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Jack Forlenza tallied the final point for Webster winning #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

In their second match, the Gorloks would take two out of three points to start doubles. Ethan Foucheaux and Tyler Gonzales won #2 doubles over Will Morris and Hugo Jovet by a final score of 8-1. Jack Forlenza and Robert McDaniel scored the second point as they defeated Travis Bieg and Ryan Pemberton in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-0.

Webster would go on to sweep the Blue Jays in singles as they won all six points. Ethan Foucheaux won #1 singles by a final score of 8-3. Matthew Birchmeier took #2 singles by a final score of 8-0. Carson Fisher won #3 singles by a final score of 8-0. Robert McDaniel captured #4 singles by a final score of 8-0. Tyler Gonzales won #5 singles by a final score of 8-3. Lastly, Noah Thomas won #6 singles by a final score of 8-0.

The Gorloks will return to the court on Wednesday, March 27th when they take on Kaskaskia (Ill.) College for an exhibition match. The match will take place at 3 p.m. at the Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
