Gorloks Spilt Weekend Matches

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University men's tennis team was back in action over the weekend when they took on the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers and the Monmouth (Ill.) College Scots. The Gorloks fell to the Panthers on Friday by a score of 7-2 before defeating the Scots on Sunday by a final score of 9-0. The weekend split moves the Gorloks to 8-11 on the year.

In their first match against Principia, the Gorloks got off to a slow start in doubles as the Panthers took all three points. Matthew Birchmeier and Carson Fisher fell in #1 doubles to Nacho Cachaza and Ernesto Botero by a final score of 8-7 (10). Ethan Foucheaux  and Tyler Gonzales fell to Jesus Soto Bossa and Ignacio Zamora by a final score of 8-6 in #2 doubles. Lastly, Robert McDaniel and Jack Forlenza fell to Rafter Sprague and Alvaro Martin Moliz in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-6.

The Gorloks picked it up in the singles portion of the match as they were able to capture points in #1 and #6 singles. Ethan Foucheaux won #1 singles over Jesus Soto Bossa by final scores of 6-4, 4-6, and 10-4. Tyler Gonzales won #6 singles over Alvaro Martin Moliz by final scores of 4-6, 6-2, and 10-8.

Webster got off to a great start in doubles against Monmouth as they won all three points. Matthew Birchmeier and Carson Fisher won #1 doubles over Sawyer Day and Spencer Corn by a final score of 8-5. Ethan Foucheaux and Tyler Gonzales won #2 doubles over Macaden Sepich and Andrew Nickols by a final score of 8-1. Jack Forlenza and Robert McDaniel completed the doubles sweep as they won #3 doubles by forfeit.

The Gorloks went on to sweep the singles portion of the match as well. Ethan Foucheaux won #1 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-2. Matthew Birchmeier won #2 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Carson Fisher took #3 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Robert McDaniel won #4 singles by final scores of 6-2 and 6-0. Jack Forlenza won #5 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0. Lastly, Tyler Gonzales won #6 singles by forfeit.

The Gorloks will return to the courts on Friday, April 19th when they host the Principia (Ill.) College Panthers for a UMAC matchup.
