ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's tennis team opened the fall schedule by hosting Illinois College Saturday at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The GorloksĀ
defeated the Blueboys by the final score of 6-1.Ā
The GorloksĀ got off to a fantastic start in doubles competition taking three-of-four matches. Webster earned a victory from the No. 2 doubles team that included
Carson Fisher and first-year
Eli Bartek by the score of 6-3. The No. 3 Webster doubles team of
Tyler Gonzales and Jack Forlenzo earned a 6-1 victory while the No. 4 team of
Andrew McDonald and
Robert McDaniel won by the identical score as the No. 3 doubles team.
In singles competition, Webster dominated the field and gain five victories. The No. 1 singles match that featuredĀ WU's
Ethan Foucheaux and IC's Tejas Zala was must-see action. Foucheaux dropped the first set but responded with a 6-3 victory in the second set that forced a tie breaker set. In the tie breaker set, FoucheauxĀ took the early advantage and stayed ahead for the 10-7 victory.Ā
The No. 2 singles match included WU's
Carson Fisher as he defeated Glenn Conway in straight sets by the final score of 6-3, 6-4. Bartek played in the No. 4 spot and defeated Andrus Dupre by the final score of 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 5 singles match,
Jack Forlenza displayed dominance as he eliminated Grayson Dupre by the score of 6-1, 6-1. The No. 6 singles match was played by Tyler Gonzalez as he took care of business with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.Ā
The men's team will have a week of preparation before traveling to Franklin, Indiana on Saturday, SeptmeberĀ 7 play against Trine University and Franklin College.
