ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's tennis team opened the 2024 season by hosting Illinois College on Saturday. The Gorloks outlast the hard-fought battle and defeat Illinois College by the final score of 4-3.
The Gorloks got off to an incredible 3-0 start by sweeping the doubles competition matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, the duo of
Journee White and
Kylie Chitwood defeated their opponents by the final score of 7-5. In the No. 2 match,
Maddie Mena and
Lucy Paro won their match by the score of 6-3 while the No. 3 doubles team of
Chloe Daughtry and
Bailee Pineda dominated with a 6-1 victory. All three double victories came out to be the difference in this decision.
In singles, Webster earned victories from the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 positions. First-year Paro competed in the No. 3 singles match and defeated Eastin by the final scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Pineda played in the No. 4 spot and defeated L. Ingram in the tiebreaker set by the score of 7-6 and 6-2. Daughtry earned a victory in the No. 5 spot by eliminating S. Ingram by the scores of 6-0 and 7-5.
The Gorloks will have a full week of practice before hitting the road to Franklin, Indiana on Saturday, September 7 to play against Trine University and Franklin College.
