Men’s Tennis Fall To Hendrix College

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's tennis team continued non-conference play by hosting Hendrix College on Friday. The Gorloks were challenged in this match and unfortunately dropped the match by the score of 1-6. 

Webster and Hendrix opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks took one match. In the number one doubles match, the team of Ethan Fouchauex and Matthew Birchmeier recorded the lone doubles victory with a dominant 6-1 win. 

In the number two doubles match, the duo of Carson Fisher and Jack Forlenza captured three set victories but fell by the score of 3-6. 

In the third doubles match, the team of Andrew McDonald and Chase Boushard secured two set victories but dropped the match by the score of 2-6. 

In the fourth doubles match, the duo of Shawn Smith and Jackson Smock played their first match as pairing this season and worked together for two set victories but fell by the score of 2-6. 

In singles play, the Gorloks picked up one victory and forced two matches to extras. In the number singles match, Foucheaux lined up against Agustin Kalinowski and captured three set victories but fell by the scores of 1-6 and 2-6. 

In the second singles match, Fisher was tasked with Carson Cole and both student-athletes went point-for-point in the opening set that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Fisher dominated Cole to a 4-0 set victory. In the second set, Fisher displayed great shots that led to a 6-2 set victory that won the match. 

In the third singles match, Birchmeier was challenged by Santiago Perez as Perez won the opening set 2-6. However, in the second set, the reigning UMAC South Player of the Week responded with a 6-3 set victory that forced a third set. In the third set, both student-athletes traded points but Perez outlasted Birchmeier late to win the match 7-10. 

In the fourth singles match, Nicholas Granada lined up against Maximilian Henderson and captured five set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 3-6 and 2-6.

In the fifth singles match, Forlenza had a tough task against Matias Ancieta and unfortunately dropped the match in straight sets 1-6 and 0-6. 

In the sixth singles match, Smith faced off against Taegan Terry and secured two set victories but fell by the scores of 2-6 and 0-6. 

In the seventh singles match, Smock captured four set victories against Lucas Junkermann but dropped the match by the score of 4-8.

In the eighth singles match, McDonald was tasked against Brayden Bolch and unfortunately dropped the match by the score of 1-6. 

In the final singles match of the day, Boushard lined up against Junkermann and captured two set victories but fell by the score of 2-6. 

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12 with matches against Iowa Central Community College and Southwestern Illinois College starting at 11:00AM for Senior Day at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
