Gorloks Blank Owls For First Conference Victory Of Season

ELSAH, Ill. - The Webster University men's tennis continued conference play with a match against Mississippi University for Women on Wednesday. The Gorloks recorded their first conference shutout victory of the spring season with a 7-0 victory over the Owls. Due to weather, this match was played at Principia College.

Webster and MUW opened the match with doubles competition as the Gorloks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. In the number one doubles match, the team of Ethan Foucheaux and Matthew Birchmeier shutout their opponents by the score of 6-0.

In the second doubles match, the duo of Carson Fisher and Jack Forlenza worked great as a team and eliminated their opponents by the score of 6-3.

In the third doubles match, the team of Shawn Smith and Nicholas Granada blanked their opponents for a 6-0 victory.

In singles play, the Gorloks generated the shutout victory by winning all six single matches. In the first singles match, Foucheaux shutout Paul Gaines in straight sets by the scores of 6-0.

In the second singles match, Fisher eliminated Luke Suggs in straight sets by the scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

In the third singles match, Birchmeier lined up against Jaylen Lewis and eliminated Lewis in straight sets by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

In the fourth singles match, Granada faced off against Tyler Bailey and defeated Bailey in straight sets by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

In the fifth singles match, Forlenza eliminated Jasper Poag in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

In the sixth singles match, Smith shutout Trevor Davis by the scores of 6-0.

The Gorloks will revert back to non-conference play this Friday, April 4 hosting Kaskaskia College starting at 4:00PM in Webster Groves, Illinois.
