Men’s Tennis Drop Conference Opener To Greenville

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University men's tennis team opened conference play by hosting the Panthers of Greenville University on Tuesday at Webster Groves Recreational Complex. The Gorloks captured one doubles and one single match victories but dropped the match by the score of 1-6. With the defeat, Webster moves to 5-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play. 

Webster and Greenville opened the match with doubles competition as the Gorloks secured one doubles victory. In the number one doubles match, the team of Matthew Birchmeier and Ethan Foucheaux worked fantastic as a team that led to a 6-2 victory. 

In the second doubles match, the team of Carson Fisher and Jack Forlenza captured four set victories but dropped the match by the score of 4-6. 

In the third doubles match, the duo of Shawn Smith and Nicholas Granada secured three set victories but fell by the score of 3-6. 

In singles play, the Gorloks earned one singles victory that came from the number three match. In the third singles match, Birchmeier faced off against Colton Hulume and secured the opening set by the score of 6-2. In the second set, Birchmeier captured three set victories but dropped the set 3-6 that forced a third set. In the third set, Birchmeier and Hulume battled back-and-forth but Birchmeier finished strong that led to a 10-6 victory. 

In the number one singles match, Foucheaux lined up against Andres Sanchez and took the opening set by the score of 6-4. In the second set, Foucheaux and Sanchez went point-for-point and Sanchez forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Foucheaux got down early as Sanchez took the tiebreaker set by the score of 0-3. 

In the number two singles match, Fisher faced off against Rafael Rodriguez Bernal as Fisher dropped the opening set 1-6. In the second set, Fisher battled back and forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Fisher fell by the score of 0-6 that lost the match.

In the number four singles match, Granada lined up against Jean Sanabria and secured three set victories but dropped the match in straight sets by the scores of 2-6 and 1-6. 

In the fifth singles match, Forlenza faced off against Clark Kent and captured six set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 4-6 and 2-6. 

In the sixth singles match, Smith lined up against Jade Dynamic and dropped the match in straight sets by the scores of 0-6. 

The Gorloks will continue the spring schedule on April 4 hosting Kaskaskia College starting at 4:00PM in Webster Groves, Missouri.
