McCoy Finishes T-11 Overall; Makgill Moves Up 17 Spots In Final Round At Capital City Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. - The Webster University men's golf team concluded tournament play with the final round at the Capital City Classic hosted by Huntingdon College on Tuesday. Justin McCoy recorded his second straight even-par round that finished in a tie for 11th overall. Cole Makgill moved up 17 spots in the final player ranking with an even-par final round. As a team, the Gorloks improved seven strokes from the opening round with a score of 297 which finished 12th out of 18 teams.   

McCoy opened his final round on the back nine and carded seven consecutive pars. Following a bogey on hole 17, he closed out the first nine holes with a par on 18 that led to the score of 37. 

The captain continued his final round with a birdie on the first hole and followed up with three straight pars. After an unfortunate bogey, he carded a par on hole six. Moments later, the captain answered with back-to-back birdies on holes seven and eight to be one-under for the room. He closed out the final hole with a bogey on hole nine that led to the score of 72. For the tournament, McCoy carded 24 pars, 6 birdies, and 6 bogeys

Makgill opened his final round on hole 12 with par and followed up with back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14. For the next four holes, he remained at two-under for the round that included a birdie on hole 17. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole one and birdie on hole two that led to a score of 31. 

The New Zealand native continued his final round with an unfortunate double-bogey on hole three. However, he got those strokes right back with consecutive birdies on holes four and five. He closed out the final six holes with three pars and three bogeys for a score of 72. For the tournament, he carded 15 pars, 10 birdies, 8 bogeys, two double-bogeys, and a quad.

Sophomore Jacob LeBlanc moved up 12 spots in the overall rankings with a two-over par score of 74 in the final round. He opened the round on hole 12 with a par and answered with a birdie on hole 13 to be one-under. Following an unfortunate bogey, he responded with back-to-back pars on holes 15 and 16. Moments later, he carded a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole one and a bogey on hole two.

The international student-athlete from Canada continued his round with seven consecutive pars on holes three through nine. He closed out the final two holes with bogeys on holes 10 and 11 for the score of 74. For the tournament, he carded 20 pars, 12 bogeys, 3 birdies, and one double-bogey

Senior captain Trent Garrett contributed to the team score with a seven-over par score of 79. He opened the final round on hole 12 and started three-over through the first four holes. He followed up with four consecutive pars on holes 15-18. He closed out the first nine holes with a bogey on hole one. 

The Chicago native started the final nine holes with two bogeys and par. Moments later, he responded with his lone birdie of the round on the par-5 fifth hole. He closed out the final five holes with three pars and two bogeys that led to the score of 79. For the tournament, he carded  21 pars, 11 bogeys, two double-bogeys, one eagle, and one birdie.

Sophomore Nico Marin rounded the team score with a nine-over par score of 81. He opened the round on hole 10 and started two-over through the first four holes that included two pars. Moments later, he carded a birdie on hole 14 and followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 15 and 16. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole 17, he closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole 18 for a score of 38. 

The international student-athlete from Mexico continued his round with three consecutive pars on holes one through three. He closed out the final six holes seven-over that included a par on hole eight that led to the score of 81. For the tournament, he carded 19 pars, 12 bogeys, 3 birdies, one double-bogey, and one triple-bogey.

The Gorloks will continue the spring season on Monday, April 14 by competing in the Bill Cochran Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tennessee.
