Gorloks Open 2025 Season At Transylvania Fall Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Webster University golf team opened the 2025 season at the Transylvania University Fall Invite with the first rounds on Saturday at the Big Blue Course. As a team, the Gorloks recorded a score of 309 in the first round and 301 in the second round. With the combination of both rounds, Webster currently stands in a tie for twelfth in the team standings with a score of 610. 

First-year Erik Malmgren made his collegiate debut and led the team in the opening round as he fired a three-over par 75. Malgren opened his tournament on hole six with a par then added three consecutive pars on holes 8-10. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole 11, he closed out the first nine holes one-under that included a birdie on hole 13 for a score of 37.

The Vellinge, Sweden native opened the back nine holes of the first round three-over par on holes 15-18 before carding a birdie on hole one. He closed out the opening round with four straight pars that generated the score of 75. For the round, he recorded 11 pars, five bogeys, and two birdies.  

One key returner that is back this season for the Gorloks is sophomore Cole Makgill as he finished second on the team in the opening round with a four-over par score of 76. He opened his tournament on hole four with a par and followed up with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. Following consecutive bogeys on holes six and seven, he carded back-to-back pars on hole eight and nine. He closed out the final three holes of the first nine holes at even-par that included a bogey on hole 10 and a birdie on hole 13 for a score of 37. 

The New Zealand native opened the back nine holes of the first round with a double-bogey on hole 13 but followed up with a par on hole 14. Following an unlucky bogey, he recorded a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. He closed out the opening round with three consecutive pars for the score of 76. For the round, he carded nine pars, five bogeys, three birdies, and a double bogey

The Gorloks are ecstatic to have returner Connor Luvin back this season as he is looking to take a huge leap this season for the Gorloks. He opened his tournament on hole five with a par then followed up with a bogey on hole six. Following that bogey, he carded back-to-back pars before taking a bogey on hole nine. He closed out the first nine holes of the tournament with four consecutive pars on holes 10-14 for a score of 39. 

The St. Louis native continued his round on hole 14 and carded three straight pars through the 16th hole. Following back-to-back bogeys on holes 17 and 18, he recorded a par on hole one. He closed out the first round two-over on the final three holes for the score of 78. For the round, he recorded 12 pars and six bogeys.

A top returner that enters the 2025 season with the most collegiate golf tournaments on this roster is junior Nico Marin. This year's captain opened this tournament on hole four with a bogey but followed up with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. After a bogey on hole six, he carded three consecutive bogeys through the ninth hole. He made the turn to hole 10 and carded a bogey but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 11 and 12. He closed out the first nine holes of the opening round with a triple bogey on hole 13 for a score of 46. 

The New Mexico native opened the final nine holes of the first round on hole 14 with a par. Following a tough four holes on 15-18, he carded a par on hole one. He got a stroke back on the second hole with a birdie and followed up with a par on hole three for the score of 80. For the round, he carded eight pars, six bogeys, two birdies, a triple bogey, and a quad.

A junior returner that has several collegiate tournaments under his belt is Jacob LeBlanc as he rounded out the scores for the Gorloks in the opening round with an eight-over par 80. He opened this tournament on the par-5 fifth hole with a birdie but got back to even-par on hole six with a bogey. Over the next four holes, he recorded three pars while taking a triple bogey on hole eight. LeBlanc closed out the first nine holes of the first round at eve-par for a score of 43. 

The international student-athlete from Canada continued his opening round on hole 14 and carded consecutive pars before recording a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. He closed out the final six holes of the first round with three pars and three bogeys for the score of 80. For the round, he carded nine pars, five bogeys, two birdies, a double bogey, and a triple bogey. 

Makgill led the way for the Gorloks in the second round as he recorded a one-over par 73. He opened the second round on hole four with a bogey but got back to even-par with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole. Following that birdie, he recorded three consecutive pars on hole six through eight. Moments later, he achieved one-under par for round with a birdie on hole nine. He closed out the final three holes of the first nine holes of the second round with two pars and a bogey for a score of 36. 

The right-handed golfer continued his second round with pars on holes 13 and 15 but carded a double bogey on hole 14. Makgill got a stroke back on hole 16 with a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. Following a par on the 17th hole, he carded a bogey on hole 18 but he got that stroke back with a birdie on hole one. He closed out the first day of the tournament with back-to-back pars on holes two and three that helped construct the round of 73. With the combination of both rounds, he carded 19 pars, eight bogeys, seven birdies, and two double bogeys. 

Marin opened the second round on hole four with a bogey but followed up with a par on hole five. Following a bogey on hole six, he got a stroke back with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. He continued the round with a par on hole eight and responded with a birdie on hole nine. He closed out the final three hole of first nine holes of the second round with three consecutive pars for a score of 36

The junior golfer opened the final nine holes of the second round on hole 13 and carded five straight pars. Following a tough two holes on 18 and one, he closed out the day with back-to-back pars on holes two and three for the score of 75. For the round, he carded 12 pars, three bogeys, two birdies, and a double bogey. For the day, he recorded 20 pars, nine bogeys, four birdies, one double bogey, a triple bogey, and a quad.

Malmgren carded the third lowest team score in the second round as he carded a four-over par score of 76. He
opened the second round on hole six and carded three consecutive pars through hole eight. Following an unfortunate double bogey on hole nine, he recorded three consecutive pars on holes 10-12. He closed out the first nine holes of the second round with a birdie on hole 14 for a score of 36. 

Malmgren began the final nine holes of the day on hole 15 and carded three straight pars on holes 15-17. Following a double bogey on the 18th hole, he responded with four pars in a row. He closed out the first day of competition with a birdie on the par-5 fifth hole for a score of 76. For the round, he constructed 13 pars, three double bogeys, and two birdies. For the day, he carded  24 pars, five bogeys, four birdies, and three double bogeys.

LeBlanc was the four lowest counting score for the second round as he fired a five-over par score of 77. He opened the second round on the par-5 fifth hole with a birdie and followed up with a bogey on hole six. Following that bogey, he responded with three consecutive pars on holes seven through nine. He closed out the first nine holes of the second round two-over over four holes that included three bogeys and a birdie on hole 13 for a score of 39.

The upperclassman continued the second round on hole 14 with a double bogey but later carded a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. He closed out the final five holes of the day with five straight pars that helped earn a score of 77. For the round, he recorded eight pars, six bogeys, three birdies, and a double bogey. For the two rounds, he constructed 17 pars, 11 bogeys, five birdies, two double bogeys, and a triple bogey.

Luvin rounded out the scorecard for the Gorloks in the second round as he fired a six-over par score of 78. He started the second round on hole five with a par and followed up with a bogey on hole six. Following that bogey, he carded three consecutive pars on hole seven through nine. He continued his round with a bogey on hole 10 but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 11 and 12.  Luvin closed out the first nine holes of the second round with a bogey on hole 13 for a score of 40. 

The Francis Howell high school product opened the final nine holes of the second round with three straight pars on holes 14 through 16. Following a pair of bogeys on holes 17 and 18, he carded three pars in brown on holes one through three. He closed out the second round with a bogey on the fourth hole for the score of 78. For the round, he carded 12 pars and six bogeys. With the addition of both rounds, he recorded 24 pars and 12 bogeys. 

The Gorloks will close out the two-day tournament tomorrow August 31 with the final round starting at 7:30AM in Lexington, Kentucky.
