Women’s Tennis Drop Both Matches On Opening Day

Box Score 1 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's tennis team opened the 2025 fall schedule by hosting a doubleheader against Wartburg College and Illinois College on Saturday. The Gorloks dropped both matches by final scores of 0-7 respectively.

In the season opening match against Wartburg, the Gorloks and Knights began the match with doubles competitions. In the number one doubles match, the duo of Abby Cristea and Maggie McBratney made their collegiate debuts and captured two set victories but dropped the match by the score of 2-6. 

The number two doubles match featured the team of Evie Schuetz and Riham Benjelloun as both student-athletes battled their opponents to a 4-6 defeat. In the final doubles match, the duo of Analiese Smith and Doreen Eyongeta played together for the first time in a Gorlok uniform but dropped the match by the score of 0-6. 

In the number one singles match, McBratney paired up against Morgan Kathman and captured eight set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 5-7 and 3-6. 

In the second singles match, Schuetz lined up against Brooke Bloom and took the first set by the score of 6-3. In the second set, Bloom answered back with a 6-2 victory that forced a third set. In the third set, Scheutz battled closely but fell late by the score of 5-10 that dropped the match.  

Benjelloun played in the number three singles match the first time in her Gorlok career and lined up against Abi Peyman. Benjelloun captured six total set victories but fell by the scores of 5-7 and 1-6. 

Cristea made her single debut in the number fourth position and lined up against Riley McClellan. Cristea battled McClellan closely in the first set but fell by the score of 4-6. In the second set, she secured one set victory but dropped the match by the score of 1-6. 

Eyongeta and Smith played in the fifth and sixth singles matches respectively as both student-athletes gained collegiate tennis experience but fell by identical scores of 0-6.

Webster hosted Illinois College for the nightcap match and got into an early three-match deficit following doubles play. In the number one singles match, McBratney faced off against Alyssa Wise and captured four set victories but dropped the match by scores of 3-6 and 1-6.

In the number two singles match, Schuetz lined up against Clara Bach and secured four set victories but fell by the identical scores of 2-6. 

Benjelloun played in the number three singles match against Sophie Muir and earned four set victories but dropped the match in straight sets.

In the four singles match, Cristea faced off against Lily Ingram and won four sets but dropped the match to Ingram by the scores of 1-6 and 2-6. 

Eyongeta and Smith played in the fifth and sixth singles matches respectively and unfortunately dropped both matches.

The Gorloks will have a week of practices before traveling to the state of Indiana on Saturday, September 6 for two matches against Franklin College and Trine University
