Marin Leads Gorloks In Day One Of Rhodes Fall Invitational

TUNICA, Miss. - The Webster University golf team opened tournament play at the 2025 Rhodes Fall Invitational at Tunica National Golf Club with two rounds on Sunday. WU's Nico Marin led the way for the Gorloks in both rounds with rounds of 73 and 74 which ranks in a tie for 11th overall. As a team, the Gorloks fired team scores of 310 and 301 which currently rank 10th out of 13th teams. 

The 2025-26 team captain in Marin opened his tournament on hole 17 with a bogey and then added consecutive pars for a one-over score of 37. The Mexico native began the back nine holes with a birdie on hole eight but gave it back with a bogey on hole nine. He continued his round with consecutive pars on holes 10 and 11. Moments later, he got 
to one-under par for the round with back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. Following a par on hole 14, he closed out the first round with two bogeys for the score of 73. For the round, he carded 11 pars, four bogeys, and three birdies.

First-year Erik Malmgren made his collegiate debut and recorded a two-over par score of 75. Malgren opened his tournament on hole 16 and recorded five straight pars before carding back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. He closed out the first nine holes with a bogey on hole five and a par on hole six for a score of 36. 

The Sweden native began the back nine holes of the opening round on hole seven and was five-over par on holes seven through nine. Moments later, he got a shot back as he carded a birdie on hole 10. He continued his round with three straight birdies before recording a birdie on the par-five 14th hole. He closed out the opening round with a 
bogey on hole 15 for the score of 75. For the round, he carded 10 pars, four birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey, and a triple bogey. 

Thanaphat "Big" Amornjaturaporn was the third lowest score in the opening round as he recorded an eight-over par score of 80. He started his tournament on hole 18 with a double-bogey and followed up with three consecutive pars on holes one through three. Moments later, he carded back-to-back bogey on holes four and five and then followed up with two straight pars on holes six and seven. He closed out the first nine holes with a double-bogey on hole eight for a score of 42. 

The Thailand native began the second nine holes of the opening round three-over par before carding back-to-back pars on holes 11 and 12. Shortly later, he got two strokes back as he recorded birdies on holes 14 and 16. He closed out the opening round with a par on the 17th hole that generated the score of 80. For the round, he carded nine pars, four bogeys, three double-bogeys, and two birdies

Jacob LeBlanc added to the team score with a 10-over par score of 82 for the opening round. He opened the tournament on hole 18 with a par and followed up with a bogey on hole one. Moments later, he recorded four straight pars on holes two through five before carding a bogey hole six. LeBlanc got a stroke back with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. He closed out the first nine holes with a bogey on hole eight for the score of 38. 

The Canada native opened the back nine holes with a bogey on hole nine and followed up with a par on hole 10. He continued his round with back-to-back pars on holes 11 and 12 before carding a circle-10 on hole 14. He closed out the final three holes with two pars and bogey for the score of 82. For the round, he carded 10 pars, six bogeys, one birdie, and a circle-10.  

Sophomore Cole Makgill rounded out the team scoring in the opening round as he fired an 11-over par score of 83. He opened his tournament on hole 17 with a triple-bogey but followed up with a par on hole 18. Following a bogey on hole one, he got that stroke back as he carded a birdie on hole two. He continued his round with consecutive bogeys on holes three and four and followed up with a par on hole five. He closed out the first nine three-over par for the score of 45. 

The New Zealand native opened the back nine holes with a bogey on hole eight but followed up with a par on hole nine and got a stroke back with a birdie on hole 10. Following a five-over stretch over three holes, he responded with an eagle on the par-five 14th hole. He closed out the final two holes of the first round with consecutive pars that earned the score of 83. For the round, he carded five pars, seven bogeys, two triple-bogeys, two birdies, an eagle, and one double-bogey.

Makgill led the Gorloks in the second round as he fired a one-over par score of 73. He started the second round on hole 17 with a bogey but followed up with a par on hole 18. Following consecutive bogeys on holes one and two, he followed up with back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. He closed out the first nine holes of the second round with three consecutive pars on holes five through seven for the score of 38. 

Makgill opened the back nine holes of the second round on hole eight with a bogey but followed up with five straight pars on holes nine through 13. Moments later, he closed out the final three holes of the day at one-under par that included birdies on holes 14 and 16 and a bogey on hole 15 for the score of 73. For the round, he carded nine pars, five bogeys, and four birdies. For the day, he recorded 14 pars, 12 bogeys, six birdies, two triple-bogeys, an eagle, and one double-bogey.

Marin turned in the second lowest score for round two as he recorded a two-over par score of 74. He started the second round on hole 17 with consecutive pars before making an unfortunate bogey on hole one. Following a par on hole two, he followed up with back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. He closed out the final three holes of the first nine holes at three-over par that included a par hole seven for a score of 39. 

The right-handed golfer opened the back nine holes with consecutive pars on holes eight and nine before carding a birdie on hole 10. He continued his round with three straight pars on holes 11 through 13 and followed up with a birdie on the par-five 14th hole. He closed out the final two holes of the second round with a double-bogey on hole 15 and a par on hole 16 for the score of 74. For the round, he carded 10 pars, four birdies, two bogeys, and two double-bogeys. For the day, he recorded 21 pars, seven birdies, six bogeys, and two double-bogeys. 

LeBlanc was the third lowest scorer for round two as he shredded seven strokes for a three-over par score of 75. He opened the second round with three consecutive pars on holes 18, one, and two. Following an unfortunate triple-bogey on hole three, he carded back-to-back pars on holes four and five. LeBlanc closed out the first nine holes of the 
second at even-par that included an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole for a score of 39. 

The junior golfer opened the final nine holes with back-to-back pars on holes nine and 10 before making a bogey on hole 11. Over the next three holes, on holes 12 through 14, LeBlanc carded two pars and a birdie on hole. He closed out the final four holes of the day at even-par that included two pars, a bogey, and a birdie on hole 16 for the score of 75. For the round, he recorded 10 pars, four bogeys, two birdies, a triple-bogey, and an eagle. For the day, he carded 20 pars, 10 bogeys, three birdies, a triple-bogey, and a circle-10. 

Malmgren finished fourth on the team in the second round as he fired a seven-over par score of 79. He opened the second round on hole 16 with par and followed up with three consecutive pars on holes 18, one, and two. He closed out the final four holes on the first nine holes at three-over par that included a par on hole five for a score of 41. 

Malmgren started the back nine holes of the second round with three consecutive pars on holes seven through nine. Over the next four holes, he went five-over par with three bogeys. Moments later, he closed out the round with back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 for the score of 79. For the round, he recorded eight pars, seven bogeys, two birdies, and one double-bogey. For the day, he carded 18 pars, nine bogeys, six birdies, two double-bogeys and one triple-bogey.

Amornjaturaporn rounded out the Gorloks score for the second round as he recorded a seven-over par score of 79. He opened the second round on hole 18 and recorded six consecutive pars. He followed up with an unfortunate double-bogey on hole six but closed out the first nine holes with consecutive pars for the score of 38. 

Big started the final nine holes on hole nine with a bogey but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 10 and 11. Following a double-bogey on hole 12, he responded with a par on hole 13. He closed out the final four holes of the day with two bogeys and two pars for the score of 79. For the round, he carded 13 pars, three bogeys, and two double-bogeys. For the day, he recorded 22 pars, seven bogeys, five double-bogeys, and two birdies.

The Gorloks will close out tournament play tomorrow, Monday September 22 starting at 8:30PM in Tunica, Mississippi.
