Govero and Halter Win Gold Medals; Gorloks Earn Second Place At 2025-26 SLIAC Indoor Championships With Nine Medals

ELSAH, Ill. - The Webster University Men's Track & Field team competed in the two-day 2025-26 SLIAC Indoor Championships hosted by Principia College on Friday and Saturday, February 27 & 28th. The Gorloks secured a total of nine medals that included two golds from Mark Govero (pole vault) and Brayden Halter (one mile) that helped secure a second place team finish with a score of 127.00. 

Govero, a St. Louis native, entered the Indoor SLIAC Championship as the current leader in the pole vault event and secured the 2025-26 SLIAC Indoor pole vault gold medal with a school record and season-best clearance of 4.80m. With that clearing height, Govero shattered his own previous indoor school record by .02m.  

Halter, a first-year from Bridgeton, Missouri secured the gold medal in the one mile run with a new personal record time of 4:34.41.

Three Gorloks and the Distance Medley Relay team secured five runner-up medals. WU's Dylan Patterson secured two second place finishes; set a new personal indoor record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.87 seconds and set a new personal indoor record in the 200m dash with a time of 22.61 seconds. 

Sophomore pole vaulter Elijah Bohler earned a second place finish with a clearing height of 3.90m. In addition, sophomore jumper Nkunim Kouame earned a silver medal in the high jump with a new personal record clearance of 1.91m. The Distance Medley Relay team of Halter, Kouame, Gabe Feaman, and Ethan Nieroda recorded a time of 11:08.03 that secured second place.

The Gorloks earned two bronze medals from Robin Wong and Nieroda. Wong secured his bronze medal in the triple jump with a new personal record mark of 13.44m. Nieroda captured his bronze medal in the 3000m run with a time of 9:19.84. 

In the pole vault event and in addition to Govero and Bohler, Austin Merritt recorded a clearance of 3.75m that earned fourth overall. 

In the long jump, Wong recorded a mark of 6.46m that earned sixth overall while Thomas Ogata set a new personal record with a mark of 5.99m that placed 11th overall.

In the high jump and in addition to Kouame, Ogata placed fourth overall with a clearing height of 1.83m. WU's Merritt recorded a clearance of 1.78m that secured fifth overall. Mason Oldani rounded out the field for Webster with a clearing height of 1.73m.

In the triple jump and in addition to Wong's bronze medal, Ogata set a new personal record with a mark of 12.98m that earned fifth overall

In the shot put event, Merritt was the lone competitor for Webster as he recorded a mark of 12.49m that earned fifth overall.

In the 60m hurdles event, Lucas LaRue crossed the finish line with a time of 8.97 that earned fourth overall. 

In the 60m dash and in addition to Patterson's silver medal, Merritt crossed the finish line with a time of 7.11 seconds that placed seventh overall. WU's Juan Gomez set a new personal record with a time of 8.03 seconds. 

In the 200m dash and in addition to Patterson's second place finish, Lucas LaRue set a new personal record with a time of 24.47 seconds.

In the 400m dash, first-year Kaiden Richardson recorded a time of 51.81 seconds that earned fourth overall. Junior sprinter Nic Richardson rounded out the field for Webster with a time of 54.25 seconds that finished ninth overall.

In the 800m, Halter paced the Gorloks with a time of 2:06.62 that secured fourth place. WU's Tyler Mooney set a new personal record with a time of 2:11.01 that finished seventh overall. In addition, Feaman recorded a time of 2:11.64 that placed ninth overall. WU's Kenneth Louvierre rounded out the competitors for Webster with a time of 2:22.73.

In the one mile run and in addition to Halter's gold medal performance, Johnny Imboden set a new personal record with a time of 4:54.55 that placed 11th overall.

In the 3000m run, Nieroda paced four Gorloks with a time of 9:19.84 that earned third place. WU's Simon Muthemba set a new personal record with a time of 9:21.80 that secured fourth place while Imboden recorded a time of 10:05.54 that placed eighth overall. WU's Jacob Hawkins set a new personal record with a time of 11:09.64.

In the 60m hurdles, LaRue earned fourth place with a time of 8.97 seconds

The 4x400m relay team of N. Richardson, Halter, Patterson, and K. Richardson recorded a time of 3:38.63 that earned fourth place.
