(Greenville, Ill.) – The Webster University Gorloks women’s basketball squad shot only 23 percent from the floor in a 65-38 loss at Greenville on Wednesday evening. The loss dropped Webster’s road record to 0-6.
The Gorloks (7-6, 2-3 SLIAC) were held scoreless for the first six minutes of the contest and didn’t get on the scoreboard until a pair of free throws by Julie McGirl at the 13:39 mark. WU didn’t score its first field goal until the 8:47 mark on a lay-up by McGirl. Webster was held to only 18 percent shooting (4-of-22) while turning the ball over 16 times. The Gorloks free throw shooting kept them in the game in the half going 9-for-11 (82 percent). The Panthers (9-4, 4-1 SLIAC) shot 52 percent (16-of-31) in the frame.
The second half was a little better for the Gorloks as they were 9-of-35 (26 percent) from the floor but Greenville continued shooting the ball at a nearly 50 percent clip (11-of-23). WU held a slim 38-37 advantage on the boards while the Panthers held the advantage in the paint 26-14 and points off turnovers 23-9.
#Michelle McQueen# had 11 points to lead Webster in the loss. McGirl had eight while Jacquelyn Wamser finished with six.
