Callahan moves on, Olufson named Acting Coach at Webster University

St. Louis, Mo. – Webster University head women’s basketball coach Jayme Callahan has accepted an assistant coaching position at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau. The St. Louis native leaves the NCAA Division III school after guiding the program for the past two seasons.

In her tenure at Webster, Callahan amassed an overall record of 17-33 with a conference record of 11-23. Coach Callahan had this to say about her departure "This decision to leave Webster was one the hardest decision I have ever had to make. The timing was horrible but I knew that I could not let this opportunity pass by."

“Obviously we hate to see Jayme leave us but we wish her well in her new position. The women’s basketball program has grown considerably under Coach Callahan both in size and expectations. I am confident the work ethic Coach Callahan has instilled in the program will remain” said Athletic Director Tom Hart.

Women’s Assistant Coach Jordan Olufson will immediately assume the duties as Acting Head Coach. Olufson joined the Gorloks last season after coaching the previous year at Central Missouri State. He scored his 1,000 point during his collegiate career while playing for Ashford University. Hart said “We couldn’t be more pleased to have someone with Coach O’s understanding of the game available to us on such short notice. His ability to relate to the players as students and athletes will help continue the growth Coach Callahan established.”

"I am grateful for the opportunity that Coach Hart and Webster University has given me. I look forward to taking the steps necessary to advance the pride and tradition of Webster basketball with this fine group of student athletes” Olufson said.

A search for a permanent head coach will commence after the New Year.
