The Lady Gorloks enter the 2008-09 seasons with nine fresh faces to go along with three returners. Webster had a solid recruiting year and is looking to make a move up the SLIAC ladder this year. The Gorloks are looking to play an up-tempo style of basketball and turn up the pressure on the defensive side of the ball. The team has high hopes for this season, as last years team found success and they want to build on it. New Head Coach Jordan Olufson is optimistic about the season and says “This group of players really can make this season a success. Their determination and fight along with their skill can really make an impact in the SLIAC conference.” The Lady Gorloks are coming off an 11-14 season finishing 5-11 in the conference. Last years team got better every game and really showed their team’s character throughout the season. The never give up attitude has carried over to this season and the team won’t settle for a 6th place finish again.
Katy Meyer returns this season after All-Conference Honorable Mention. She averaged 10.5 ppg and 6.0 rebounds a contest. Coach O says ”Katy is coming off a superb season and we are looking for her to continue playing at a high level all year long.” Along side Katy,
Julie McGirl returns to hold down the post position. She is coming off a good year where she finished with 9.6 ppg and 5.8 RPG. “Julie is just a hard noised kid who has a never give up attitude and can really create a lot of problems for other team’s post player.” Olufson adds. Katy was named play of the week twice and Julie was named this honor once.
Erin Chesnek, is the lone senior on this year’s team, where she played a crucial role on last year’s team. “Erin is the type of player who always gives 100% everyday and can guard just about anyone on the floor.” Olufson says. Coach Olufson is pretty excited about the new crop of players in the basketball program. “We have a great group of young ladies who are hungry and want to have success early and often this year.” Courtney Brown, Bolinbrook, IL, comes off a successful high school season, where her team finished 2nd in state.
Bobbiann Auer, Lombard IL is coming in this season with a lot to offer and brings a great shooting touch to the team.
Amanda Arcangel, Chino, CA, brings a lot of heart and tough guard play to this year’s team.
Ayrica Lockett, St. Louis, brings a lot of athleticism to the team and the ability to guard anyone.
Blaire Underwood, Webster Groves, comes to Webster as a known shooting threat along side her knowledge and ability to control the tempo of the game will be a huge asset for us this year.
Megan Willett, Manchester, MO, has the ability to guard and play different positions.
Tori Fenemor, St. Charles, MO, has the ability to lead a team and brings high expectations to Webster.
Loren Douglas, Chesterfield, MO, brings size and presence on the court will pay large dividends for the team.
