Gorloks see double-double vision

(BOX SCORE)

Sophomore Katy Meyer and freshman Ayrica Lockett each recorded double-doubles as Webster led from start to finish in beating Rust College Sunday, 78-69, in non-conference action at Grant Gymnasium. It was the Gorloks' third game in five days.

Both players achieved the feat with 11 rebounds and career-high scoring totals as Lockett tied her previous best of 14 - which she set in Saturday's win over MacMurray - and Meyer tied her career-high of 20. It was the second straight double-double for Webster's sophomore forward.

Meyer hit on her first five three-points and finished six-of-seven from behind the arc, while Lockett  patrolled the paint - hitting seven-of-nine from the field.

The Gorloks (4-3 overall) have won two in a row, and three of the last four.

Webster exploded out of the gates, scoring 28 of the games first 39 points in opening up a 19-point bulge. But, the Gorloks didn't appear to handle the quick prosperity as they allowed the Bearcats to answer with a 19-5 spurt to pull to within five.

Rust pulled to within one twice, but both times Lockett got a basket to hold the Bearcats at bay. RC was even able to knot the game once, however, two free throws by Megan Willett with 10:29 remaining in the contest stemmed the time.

Two separate scoring runs, one of 7-0 and another at 9-0, during the final 10 minutes allowed the Gorloks to pull out its fourth win of the season.

Freshmen Blaire Underwood and Willett each dished out a team-high five assists.

Webster hosts Robert Morris College 6 p.m. Wednesday in its third consecutive home game as it plays a stretch in which the Gorloks have eight of nine games at Grant Gymnasium.
