Late run dooms Gorloks

(BOX SCORE)

Westminster ended the game scoring 14 of the last 17 points in beating Webster Wednesday, 72-61, in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Grant Gymnasium.

The late Blue Jay run came immediately following a Gorlok spurt that pulled them even with 5:28 remaining. Back-to-back steals and layups from freshman Bobbiann Auer sparked the rally as Webster scored 12 of the next 14 points.

Three consecutive turnovers hampered Webster's attempt to stay in the game late as Westminster was 10-of-12 from the foul line to ice the game. The Blue Jay march to the charity stripe was a stark contrast to the first half when Webster marched to the line 18 times, while WC didn't attempt a single free throw.

However, the Gorloks didn't take full advantage as they were 11-of-18 in the first half, and finished the game 19-of-28.

Sophomore Katy Meyer led WU with 12 points and seven rebounds, while freshman Ayrica Lockett recorded 11.

Webster, which falls to 9-8 overall, and 4-5 in the SLIAC, will travel to MacMurray 2 p.m. Saturday. The Gorloks were 72-62 victors in the first meeting on December 6th.
