Webster Men 65 Coe College 47

The men's basketball team heads into the holidays in good spirits after a 65-47 win over Coe College (IA)  on December 20 at Webster University.  The victory came in the second round of the Webster Classic, as the Gorloks raced to a 15-0 lead, and led by a comfortable margin throughout the contest.

Guards Cody Bradfisch (FR, Jerseyville HS, IL) and Justin Endo (SR, Seabury Hall HS, HI), seeing increased playing time, helped spark the Gorloks out of their recent funk.  Bradfisch dropped in 10 points, and had five rebounds and three assists on the day.

Webster's defense once again played well, forcing 15 turnovers, and outrebounded Coe while limiting it to 34 percent shooting from the field.  But the Gorlok offense turned it up with a better shot selection and a much better conversion rate (45 percent FG shooting) than in recent games.  Drew Moore (JR, Webster Groves HS, STL) led the team with 11 points and eight rebounds, and John Ortwerth (SR, DeSmet Jesuit HS, STL) added 10 points.

In other second round action, Cornell College (IA) defeated Hendrix College (AR), 67-56.  Moore was named to the all-Classic team.  Matt Lewis (Cornell) was named the Classic MVP as teammate Chris Handke joined him on the team.  Cal Rose and Nick Heathscott (Hendrix College) and Dan Borngraeber (Cornell College) rounded out the all-Classic selections.

Webster takes an extended break, next hitting the hardwood at Spalding University in Louisville, KY, on January 2.  The Gorloks next home game is on January 6 vs. Eureka College in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.
