Freshman
Myrtie Reilly became the first women's basketball player in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history to record a triple-double. However, Webster wasn't able to pull out the SLIAC victory, falling in overtime to Greenville Saturday, 77-70, at Grant Gymnasium.
The final two blocks came on Greenville's final two shots, either attempt would have given GC the victory in regulation. The 6-3 center finished with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks for the triple-double.
Trailing by 10 with a little of 10 minutes remaining, Webster began the trek to overtime. Reilly scored six consecutive points during the Gorloks' 8-0 run that got the home team to within two. After trading baskets, two free throws by freshman
Ayrica Lockett knotted the game with 47 seconds remaining.
Both teams made two free throws on consecutive possessions to send the game into the extra session. The bonus time belonged to the Greenville reserves. With the Panthers' leading scorer with 36 points going into the overtime, WU was not going to let her beat them. GC, which was 1-of-10 from behind the arc after two periods, nailed back-to-back three-pointers in overtime to steal momentum and the game.
Sophomore
Katy Meyer finished with 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting, while Lockett added 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Blaire Underwood added 11 points for the Gorloks.
Webster (10-14 overall, 5-10 SLIAC) will wrap up the 2008-09 campaign when they host Principia Tuesday.
