Gorloks Pummel Panthers, 68-49

The Webster University women’s basketball team utilized a full squad as it defeated Principia College, 68-49, on January 25, in Elsah, IL. In a game Head Coach Jordan Olufson characterized as, “a whole team effort, with everyone on the roster contributing,” 12 different players landed in the scoring column, with 11 scoring seven points or less.

A suffocating Webster defense had a season-high 17 steals in the contest, eclipsing the 16 steals it had in the season opener against Logan College. Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS) scored 21 points, breaking the 20 point barrier a third time this season, in leading the Gorloks. Meyer also led the team with six rebounds. Maggie Zehner (SO, Oakville HS) had a team-high six assists, tying her season high.

Elsah was the site of the first win in history of the women’s basketball program, 20 years ago on January 12, 1991. That landmark win came in the team’s fourth season, after the Gorloks had lost their first 63 games (including 14 forfeits).

Webster improves to 6-3 in the SLIAC and 11-7 overall on the season. The Gorloks conclude their three-game road trip at Eureka College (IL) on January 29. The team has a week off before facing MacMurray College (IL) at home on February 5.
