Webster Women Win Fourth Straight, Down MacMurray, 75-49

The Webster University women’s basketball team kept the pace in the race for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament berth with a 75-49 win over MacMurray College (IL) on February 5 at Grant Gymnasium. The victory was the fourth straight for the Gorloks, all against SLIAC opponents.

Webster built a 21-2 lead to open the contest, fueled by a 21-0 run, and cruised to a 36-21 halftime advantage. The Gorloks substituted frequently in the second-half, utilizing all 16 players on their roster, in closing out the win. Webster continues to hold onto third place in the SLIAC standings, with five games remaining on the conference schedule.

Katy Meyer (SR, Parkway Central HS), who was honored before the game for her 1000th career point, led the Gorloks with 18 points, and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Tori Fenemor (SO, St. Charles HS) chipped in with 12 points, had eight rebounds, and a team-high five steals. Twelve players landed in the scoring column for the Gorloks.

At halftime of the contest, Halley Spann Barke was inducted into the SLIAC Hall of Fame for 2011, primarily for her exploits in three seasons for the Gorlok women's basketball team.

Webster is 8-3 in the SLIAC and improved to 13-7 overall. The Gorloks continue their three-game home stand, taking on Blackburn College (IL) on February 9. It ends with a rare Friday night contest vs. Spalding University (KY) on February 11.  That evening will be 'The Pink Zone,' as the Gorloks help out in the fight against breast cancer.
