Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team skipped the shopping and took a Thanksgiving weekend trip to take on Augustana College. Unfortunately, the Gorloks fell to the Vikings, 89-83, at Rock Island, Ill., on November 30. Courtney Pursley (SR, Lonedell, Mo/St. Clair HS) had 13 points and a team-high 16 rebounds in the contest.
Webster took an early six-point lead to start the contest, but fell behind, 49-34, at the half after shooting just one for nine from the three point line, and only sinking 13 of a whopping 25 free throws in the period.
A three-pointer by freshman guard Elisha Cobbs (Bellevue, Neb/Bellevue HS) and a pair by Mia Williams (St. Louis, Mo/Hazelwood West HS) keyed a Gorlok comeback as they crawled within six, 64-58, at 10:16 in the second half. A Brittany Harris-Conway (St. James, Mo/John F. Hodge HS) basket and free throw, and a free-throw by Cobbs pulled the Gorloks within two, 67-65, at 7:56. That was as close as they would come as a subsequent 12-2 run by the Vikings sealed Webster's fate.
Cobbs had 15 points, on five for nine shooting from the field, and center Cassie Endicott (JR, Bethalto, Ill/Civic Memorial HS) had 15 points as well, with seven rebounds. Williams finished with 13 points, hitting three of six three-point attempts, and was five for nine from the field overall.
Webster falls to 2-2 for the season with the loss. The Gorloks open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on December 4, with a home game vs. Greenville College at 6:00 p.m. at Grant Gymnasium. The Fontbonne University Griffins will then visit Grant, on December 7 at 1:00 p.m.
