Box Score Despite Courtney Pursley (SR, Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) logging her third double double of the young season, the Webster University women's basketball team fell at Eureka College (IL), 70-67, on December 14. The Gorloks lost a late lead as they scored only one point in the game's final 3:49.
Pursley had 18 points and 12 rebounds for the game, piling up 12 points and 10 rebounds in the second half. Brittany Conway-Harris (SO, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) had 14 points on the afternoon, and Ashley Brooks (SO, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) had 11 points coming off the bench.
Webster opened up a 12 point lead but entered halftime with a slim 38-36 lead. After a see-saw battle in the second, Webster took a 66-64 advantage on an Elisha Cobbs (FR, Bellevue, NE/Bellevue West HS) three-pointer with 3:49 left in the game. A Cassie Endicott (JR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) free throw, though, would be the only point the Gorloks would score for the duration.
A pair of layups by Eureka scoring leader Caty Eeten gave Eureka a 68-67 edge with 1:23 left and the Red Devils added a pair of free throws for the 70-67 final. Webster had opportunities to tie or take the lead but turnovers thwarted them. The Gorloks out-rebounded the Red Devils, 47-37, but also had 16 turnovers to Eureka's nine as they lost their first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tilt.
Endicott had four blocked shots and nine rebounds in the game. Cobbs and fellow guard Kaliann Rikard (SR, Cuba, MO/Cuba HS) each had eight points and a team-high five assists for the contest.
Webster is 2-1 in the SLIAC and 4-3 overall. The Gorloks have a two-week holiday break before resuming play on a two-game road trip to California. Webster faces the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena on December 28, then takes on Pomona College on December 30.
