Gorloks Clinch 2nd With 55-44 Win at Blackburn

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team finished at 11-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 55-44 win over Blackburn College, on February 16, in Carlinville, IL.  With the victory on a record-setting night for Cassie Endicott (SO, Civic Memorial HS, IL), the Gorloks clinched second place in the SLIAC and will take the #2 seed into the SLIAC Tournament.

In just her sixth game back, after missing 14 straight due to injury, Endicott hit a rare 'triple double', breaking out with 16 points, a team-high 14 rebounds, and a school-record 12 blocked shots.  The 12 blocked shots broke the previouls high held by Myrtie Reilly (2008-09) who had 10 blocks on Feb. 14, 2009, vs. Greenville College (IL).

Maggie Zehner (SR, Oakville HS, MO) moved into 4th place on Webster's all-time high scoring list with her team-high 17 points for the game, bringing her career total to 1087.  Zehner leapt two places, passing Debi Eydman (1992-95) at 1082 and Tara Fortschneider (2000-04) at 1084.  Zehner also moved up to 9th place on Webster's single season all-time high list, with 377 points scored this year.  She passed up Kim Sheets, who had 371 points in 2004-05.

Courtney Pursley (JR, St. Clair HS, MO) also broke into double figure with 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Kaliann Rikard (JR, Cuba HS, MO) had eight points, seven rebounds, and four assists before fouling out of the contest.  Gwen Williams (SR, Ft. Zumwalt West HS, MO) had team-highs in assists (5) and steals (3).

The Gorloks rolled up a 26-17 halftime lead and were never headed in the contest.  Coach Jordan Olufson noted after that "everyone contributed to the win and the team had put up an outstanding defensive effort in the game."

As the #2 seed in the tournament, Webster will face the #3 seed in the semi-finals, with that team yet to be determined.  The first round of the SLIAC Tournament will be on February 21, at 6:00 p.m., at Westminster College, in Fulton, MO.  Westminster plays host for the tournament due to its first play finish in the conference.
