Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team broke a two game skid in a big way, defeating MacMurray College, 64-51, on January 25. The Gorloks' frontline overpowered the Highlanders as they accounted for 45 of Webster's 64 points. Forward Brittany Harris Conway (SO, St. James, MO/ John F. Hodge HS) led the way with 16 points in the contest at Jacksonville, IL.
In addition to Harris Conway, center Cassie Endicott (JR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) had 15 points and forward Courtney Pursley (SR, Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) had 14 points and six rebounds. Guard Kaliann Rikard (SR, Cuba, MO/Cuba HS) had a team-high nine rebounds and six assists, while adding eight points.
Coach Jordan Olufson said "Our defense and transition game were huge. We really pushed the tempo and pressured on defense. It was a real full team effort."
Gorloks took firm control of the contest in the second half after taking a 35-28 halftime lead. Webster extended its lead to 18 early in the half, outscoring the Highlanders 16-5 and pulling out to a 51-33 advantage.
In the first half, Webster's starting frontline all contributed. Harris-Conway had 10 points, Endicott chipped in with nine, and Pursley had eight. Webster shot 50% from the field (13-26) despite going 0-5 from the three-point line, and was 9-10 from the free throw line. For the game, Webster was 20-25 from the charity stripe.
With the win, the team broke a two-game St. Louis intercollegiate Athletic Conference losing streak and improved to 6-3 in the conference and hang on to fourth place. The Gorloks are 9-7 overall on the season.
Webster heads to Carlinville, IL, on January 29 to face the Blackburn Beavers. The Gorloks are home on February 1 as they host the newest SLIAC member, Iowa Wesleyan.
