Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team suffered its first loss in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, falling at Westminster College, 79-70, on December 3. The Gorloks fell behind, 37-24, at the half and couldn't overcome the deficit, despite 20 point outputs from Brittany Harris-Conway and Cassie Endicott.
The Blue Jays maintained a slight lead for most of the first half against the Gorloks, but Webster edged to within one, at 22-21, with 3:37 remaining. But Westminster closed out the half with a 15-3 run to balloon their advantage to 13.
Westminster kept up its lead during the second half, with Webster pulling to within seven, 65-58, with 6:40 left in the contest. But the Blue Jays hit their free throws down the stretch to quell any Gorlok comeback. Westminster wound up 19-21 from the free throw line for the game.
Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) had a career high 29 points, and had a double double for the night by adding a team-high 10 rebounds. Harris-Conway was 12-18 from the field for the evening. Endicott had a season-high 22 points on 10-17 shooting from the field.
Harris-Conway and Endicott were a combined 9-15 in the first half, but the rest of the Gorloks were a combined 1-19 from the field as the team shot 10-34 (29%). Webster heated it up in the second half, shooting 20-34 (59%), but it was too little, too late.
Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) had another complete game in the backcourt, leading the team with six assists and three steals, while adding five points and eight rebounds.
Webster had a 16-game win streak from 2000-07 vs. Westminster, but since then have gone 4-15 against the Blue Jays. Westminster holds a slight 26-24 edge all-time vs. Webster in regular season play.
The Gorloks are now 1-1 in the SLIAC and 4-3 overall. Webster has another SLIAC road game on December 6 at Principia College, in Elsah, IL. The team returns home on December 10 to face Washington University, who is ranked fifth nationally in the NCAA III.
