The Webster University golf team shot a second round tournament low score of 296, to finish in second place at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational, on September 15, in Hartford, WI. Jay Hargis (SO, Highland, IL/Highland HS) shot a team low 72, matching Brodie Dakin's first round 72 for tournament low for Webster. The Gorloks' 602 total for the tournament was 10 strokes behind first place finisher, Carthage College (WI).
Dakin (JR, Macomb, IL/Macomb HS) finished tied for 3rd place in the field of 82 golfers after shooting a second round score of 76 to wind up at 148, just four strokes over par. Tyler Thorman (JR, Macomb, IL/Macomb HS) finished at 150, good enough for an 8th place tie. Hargis wound up two strokes back at a 152 total, for a tie for 11th place.
Head coach Andrew Belsky observed, "I believe this was the best played single round I have seen in my 16 years associated with the program. The guys battled through a constant rain to shoot a respectable 306 in the first round. They then came out, and with a consistency throughout the lineup, shaved 10 strokes off that score for a great finish. Top to bottom, a great tournament for the squad."
Webster's JV will be in action on September 21-22, at the MacMurray Fall Invitational in Jacksonville, IL. The varsity golf team will return to the links on September 29-30 at the Midwest Region Fall Classic, at Trapper's Turn Golf Club at The Dells in Wisconsin.
