Malmgren Records Career-Low Even-Par In Opening Round, Gorloks Conclude Day One At Wabash Fall Invitational

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Webster University men's golf team opened tournament play at the 2025 Wabash College Fall Invitational with two rounds on Monday at Broadmoor Country Club. First-year Erik Malmgren recorded a career-best even-par 72 in the opening round. As a team, the Gorloks recorded an opening round score of 309 and then cut five strokes in round two for a score of 304 which earned a total score of 614. 

Round 1: 
First-year Malmgren led the Gorloks in the first round with an even-par score of 72. He opened the tournament on the par-five 12th hole with an incredible eagle and followed up with a par on hole 13. Following an unfortunate bogey on hole 14, he carded two consecutive pars. Moments later, he recorded back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 and then closed out the first nine holes with a birdie on hole two for a score of 34. With that score of 34, it was four-under par for those nine holes.

The Sweden native continued his round on hole three with a par and followed up with a bogey on hole four. Moments later, he recorded five straight pars on holes five through nine. He closed out the final two holes at three-over par for the score of 72. For the round, he carded 10 pars, three bogeys, three birdies, an eagle, and a double-bogey.

Nico Marin turned in the second lowest opening round with a five-over par score of 77. He opened his tournament on hole 13 with a par and followed up with a birdie on hole 14. Following that birdie, he carded three consecutive pars on holes 15 through 17 and made an unfortunate bogey on hole 18. He closed out the first nine holes with pars on holes one and two and bogey on hole three for a score of 38.

The Mexico native continued his opening round with back-to-back pars on holes four and five. Following three bogeys, he carded a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. He closed out the final three holes of the round with two bogeys and par for the score of 77. For the round, he carded nine pars, seven bogeys, and two birdies.

Sophomore Cole Makgill recorded the third lowest round in the opening round with a six-over par score of 78. He opened the tournament on hole 14 with a bogey but followed up with four consecutive pars on holes 15-18. Moments later, he took an unfortunate bogey but added a par on hole two. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on fourth hole for the score of 40

The New Zealand native continued his round with a par on hole five. Following a bogey on hole six, he carded back-to-back pars on holes seven and eight. After a three-hole stretch at three-over par, he closed out the first round with back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 for the score of 78. For the round, he carded nine pars, six bogeys, two birdies, and one double-bogey.

Junior golfer Jacob LeBlanc contributed to the team score with a 10-over par score of 82. He opened the first round on hole 14 with a par and then followed up with a bogey. Moments later, he recorded five consecutive pars on holes 16-2. He closed out the first nine holes two-over par for the score of 39. 

The Canada native continued the round four-over par through hole seven but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes eight and nine. Following an unlucky triple-bogey on hole 10, he closed out the round with three consecutive pars for the score of 82. For the round, he carded 11 pars, five bogeys, a double-bogey, and a triple-bogey.

Sophomore Thanaphat "Big" Amornjaturaporn rounded out the team score for the first round with a 12-over par score of 84. He opened the tournament on hole 12 with a par and later added another par on hole 17. Following a double-bogey on hole 18, he followed up with a birdie on hole one. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole two for the score of 41. 

The Thailand native continued his round with back-to-back pars on holes three and four and then carded a birdie on hole five. Shortly later, he recorded consecutive pars on holes eight and nine. Following a three-over stretch on holes 10 and 11, he closed out the round with a birdie on hole 12 for the score of 84. For the round, he carded seven pars, five double-bogeys, three birdies, two bogeys, and one triple-bogey

Round 2:
Makgill led the team for the second round with a two-over par score of 74. He started the round on hole 14 with a bogey but followed up with back-to-back pars on holes 15 and 16. Moments later, he carded consecutive birdies on holes 17 and 18 that moved to one-under on the round. He closed out the first nine holes with three bogeys and a par in hole three for the score of 38. 

Makgill continued his round with consecutive bogeys on holes five and six but followed up with five straight pars on holes seven through 11. He closed out the round with back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 for the score of 74. For the round, he carded eight pars, six bogeys, and four birdies. For the day, he recorded 17 pars, 12 bogeys, six birdies, and one double-bogey. 
 
Marin turned in the second lowest second round score with a four-over par score of 76. He opened the second round on hole 13 with a par and later added another par on hole 15. Following a bogey on hole 16, he followed up with back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 that moved back to even-par for the round. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole three for the score of 40.

Marin continued the second round with three consecutive pars on holes four through six. Following an unlucky bogey on hole seven, he closed out the round with five straight pars on holes eight through 12 for the score of 76. For the round, he recorded 11 pars, four bogeys, two birdies, and a double-bogey. For the day, he carded 20 pars, 11 bogeys, four birdies, and a double-bogey. 

LeBlanc improved six strokes from one round and turned in a four-over par score of 76 for the second round. He opened the round on hole 14 and was two-over through hole 17 that included back-to-back pars on holes 16 and 17. Moments later, he followed up with a birdie on hole 18 and consecutive pars on holes one and two. He closed out 
the first nine holes with a par on hole four that led to a score of 38. 

LeBlanc continued his second round with a par on hole five and then followed up with a birdie on hole six. Following a pair of bogeys, he carded a birdie on hole nine. Shortly later, he closed out the round with consecutive pars on holes 12 and 13 for the score of 76. For the round, he recorded eight pars, seven bogeys, and three birdies. For the day, he carded 19 pars, 12 bogeys, three birdies, a double-bogey, and a triple-bogey.

Amornjaturaporn improved six strokes from round one as he recorded a six-over par score of 78 for the second round. He opened the round on hole 13 with a birdie then later added another birdie on the par-three 15th hole. Following a two-hole bogey skid, he followed up with consecutive pars on holes 18 and one. He closed out the first 
nine holes at three-par for the score of 40. 

Amornjaturaporn "Big" continued his round with a par on hole four and followed up with a birdie on hole five. Moments later, he carded a par on hole seven and on hole nine. He closed out the final three holes of the day with two bogeys and a par on hole 11 for the score of 78. For the round, he recorded seven pars, seven bogeys, three birdies, 
and a double-bogey. For the day, 14 pars, nine bogeys, six double-bogeys, six birdies, and one triple-bogey. 

Malmgren rounded out the second round team score with a nine-over par score of 81. He opened the round on hole 12 with a birdie. Following a tough four-hole stretch on holes 13 through 16, he carded a birdie on the par-five 17th hole. Following consecutive bogeys on holes 18 and one, he closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole two for the score of 44. 

Malmgren continued his round on holes three and four at four-over but followed up with three consecutive pars on holes five through seven. Moments later, he got a stroke back with a birdie on the par-3 eighth hole. He closed out the round with a par on hole nine, a birdie on 10, and a bogey on hole 11 for the score of 81. For the round, he recorded five pars, seven bogeys, four birdies, and two triple-bogeys. For the day, he carded 15 pars, 10 bogeys, seven birdies, two triple-bogeys, the lone eagle for the team, and a double-bogey.  

The Gorloks will close out tournament play tomorrow starting at 8:00AM at Broadmoor CC.
