Marin Paces With One-Over 73; Gorloks Rank Sixth After Opening Round At 2026 SLIAC Golf Championships

CASEYVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University men's golf team opened the 2026 SLIAC Championships with the first round on Sunday at Far Oaks Golf Course. The Gorloks currently rank sixth with a team score of 303 (+15 over). 

Junior Nico Marin paced the Gorloks with a one-over par for a score of 73 in the opening round. He opened the tournament two-under par through three holes that included birdies on holes one and three. However, he went back to even-par with a double-bogey on hole four. He recorded a par on hole five, a bogey on hole six, a par on hole seven, a birdie on hole eight, and a par on hole nine for an even-par 36 score. 

Marin opened the back nine with a par on hole 10 then followed up with back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12. On hole 13, he carded a bogey to be at one-under for the round. Moments later, he recorded an eagle on the par-five 14th hole to be at three-under. However, he carded a double-bogey on hole 15 to be at one-under. Following a par on hole 16, he closed out the first round with consecutive bogeys for a one-over par score of 73. For the round, he carded six pars, five birdies, four bogeys, two double-bogeys, and an eagle.  

Sophomore Cole Makgill had the second-lowest opening round score as he fired a three-over 75. He opened the championship with a par on hole one then carded a double-bogey. He got a stroke back on hole three with a birdie to be at one-over par. Following three consecutive pars on holes four through six, he got back to even-par for the round with a birdie on hole seven. He then followed up with a par on hole eight then carded a bogey on hole nine for a score of 37. 

Makgill opened the back nine with consecutive bogeys on holes 10 and 11. He continued the round with four consecutive pars on holes 12 through 16. He then carded a bogey on hole 17 then recorded a birdie on hole 18 for the score of 75. For the round, he carded 10 pars, four bogeys, three birdies, and a double-bogey.

First-year Erik Malmgren recorded the third-lowest score for the team with a four-over par score of 76. He opened the championship with a birdie on hole one then followed up with a par on hole two. Following a bogey on hole three, he carded a par on hole four. Following a bogey on hole five, he recorded a par on hole six. He then carded a bogey on hole seven but got that stroke back on hole eight with a birdie. He closed out the front nine with a bogey for the score of 38. 

Malmgren opened the back nine with three consecutive pars on holes 10 through 12. Following a double-bogey on hole 13, he closed out the round with five consecutive pars for the score of 76. For the round, he carded 11 pars, four bogeys, two birdies, and a double-bogey. 

Senior Oscar Petitjean contributed to the team score with a seven-over par score of 79. He opened the round with a par on hole one then carded back-to-back triple-bogeys. He followed up with a par on hole four then took a bogey on hole five. He got two strokes back with consecutive birdies on holes six and seven. He followed up with a bogey on hole eight then carded a birdie on hole nine for the score of 41.  

Petitjean opened the back nine with a double-bogey on hole 10 then closed out the round with eight consecutive pars for the score of 79. For the round, he carded 10 pars, three birdies, two bogeys, two triple-bogey, and a double-bogey. 

Thanaphat (Big) Amornjaturaporn rounded out the team score with a nine-over score of 81. He opened the round with a birdie on hole one then followed up with a par on hole two. Following two bogeys on holes three and four, he recorded three consecutive pars on holes five through seven. He got a stroke back with a birdie on hole eight then closed out the front nine holes with a par for the score of 36. 

Big opened the back nine with three consecutive bogeys on holes 10-12. He then carded a double-bogey, triple-bogey, and bogey on holes 13-15. He closed out the first round with three consecutive pars for the score of 81. For the round, he carded eight pars, six bogeys, two birdies, a double-bogey, and a triple-bogey.
