Marin Secures First Career Top-15 Finish At Rhodes Fall Invitational

TUNICA, Miss. - The Webster University golf team concluded tournament play at the 2025 Rhodes Fall Invitational with the final round Monday morning. WU's Nico Marin led the Gorloks with a four-over par score of 76 in the final round that helped secure a tie for 13th overall. As a team, the Gorloks recorded a final round score of 315 that earned 11th place. 

Marin started his final round on hole 14 with a birdie then added another birdie on the par-five 16th hole. Moments later, he added pars on holes 17 and hole one before taking an unfortunate double-bogey on hole two. He closed out the first nine holes with a birdie on the par-5 third hole and a par on hole four for the score of 39.

The Mexico native began the final nine holes on hole five and added three consecutive pars on holes five through seven. Following an unlucky bogey on hole eight, he got that stroke back on hole nine with a birdie. He continued his final round with three bogeys and a par of hole 13 for the score of 76. For the round, he carded eight pars, four bogeys, four birdies, and two double-bogeys. With combination of all three rounds (73, 74, and 76), he carded 29 pars, 11 birdies, 10 bogeys, and four double-bogeys that placed 13th overall. 

First-year Erik Malmgren closed out his collegiate tournament debut with a five-over par score of 77 which earned 33rd overall. He started his final round on hole 14 with a birdie and later added pars on holes 16 and 18. Following a three-hole stretch at four-over par, he closed out the first nine holes with a birdie on hole four for the score of 43. 

The Sweden native opened the back nine holes with four consecutive pars on holes five through eight. Following a bogey on hole nine, he closed out the final four holes of his first collegiate tournament with three pars and a birdie on hole 12 for the score of 77. For the round, he recorded nine pars, four bogeys, three birdies, and two double-bogeys. With the combination of all three rounds (75, 79, and 77), he carded 27 pars, 13 bogeys, nine birdies, four double-bogeys, and one triple-bogey. 

Junior golfer Jacob LeBlanc started his final round on hole 15 and went four-over through the first three holes but responded with a birdie on the 18th hole. Following a par on hole one, he carded an eagle on the par-5 third hole. He closed out the first nine holes with a par on hole four and a bogey on hole five for a score of 41. 

The native of Canada opened the final nine holes with consecutive bogeys and followed up with a par on hole eight. Two holes later, he recorded a par on hole 10 and added another par on 12th hole. He closed out the tournament with a par on hole 14 for the score of 81. For the round, he carded seven bogeys, six pars, two double-bogeys, one birdie, and an eagle.  With the addition of all three rounds (82, 75, and 81) he recorded 26 pars, 18 bogeys, four birdies, two eagles, two double-bogeys, a triple-bogey, and a circle-10. 

The next counting scorer for the Gorloks was sophomore Cole Makgill as he fired a 10-over par score of 82 in the final round. He started the round on hole 15 with a par and followed up with a birdie on the par-five 16th hole. Over the next three holes, he recorded three bogeys. He closed out the final four holes of the first nine holes with four consecutive pars on holes two through five for the score of 39. 

The New Zealand native opened the final nine holes with a par on hole six but went four-over on the next three holes. He continued his round with back-to-back pars on holes 10 and 11 before carding an eight. He closed out the final three holes of the tournament with three straight pars for the score of 82. For the round, he recorded 10 pars, five bogeys, one birdie, one double-bogey, and a quad. With the addition of all three rounds (83, 73, and 82) he carded 24 pars, 17 bogeys, seven birdies, two double-bogeys, two triple-bogeys, an eagle, and a quad. 

Sophomore Thanaphat "Big" Amornjaturaporn rounded out the team score with a nine-over par score of 81. He began his final round on hole 16 and started one-over par through the first three holes that included a birdie on hole 17. Following a par on hole one, he went back to even-par on the round with a birdie on hole two. Shortly later, he added a par on hole four but closed out the final two holes of the first nine holes at four-over par for the score of 42. 

The Thailand native opened the back nine holes with a par on hole seven and followed up with another par on hole nine. Following a three-over stretch on holes 10 and 11, he closed out the tournament with five straight pars on holes 12 through 15 for the score of 81. For the round, he recorded eight pars, five bogeys, three double-bogeys, and two birdies. With the combination of all three rounds (80, 79, and 81), he carded 30 pars, 12 bogeys, eight double-bogeys, and four birdies.

The Gorloks will resume the fall portion of their schedule on Monday, October 6 by participating in the Wabash College Invitational at Broadmoor CC in Indianapolis, Indiana
