Box Score As it continues to edge toward the .500 mark in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, the Webster University women's basketball team defeated Blackburn College, 94-60, on January 21 in Carlinville, IL. The point total for Webster was its highest in 10 years, just missing a team record.
The 94 points scored by the Gorloks were the second most in a single game in the program's history, eclipsed only by the 105 points scored by Webster in a 105-40 win over Principia College in 2004. Webster last scored 94 points in a 94-74 win over Rockford College on December 12, 2004. Five Gorloks scored in double figures for Webster, led by Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) with 25.
Danielle Meadows (SO, Centralia, IL/Centralia HS) with 12, and Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) with 11, hit double figures as well. Meadows' points all came from beyond the arc as she went 4-4 on three-point attempts. Meadows also had three blocked shots and three assists in the contest.
Freshmen sisters Taylor Lucas (Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) and Aley Lucas (Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) weighed in with 14 and 13 points, respectively, in only 14 and 15 minutes of play. Aley Lucas was 6-9 from the field.
Harris-Conway, who was 9-15 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line, also led Webster with nine rebounds. Alyssa Sapp (JR, Ashland, MO/Southern Boone HS) led the Gorloks with six assists on the night, as the team handed out a season-high 25 for the game.
The Gorloks shot 36-72 (50%), including 6-7 from the three-point line, and out rebounded the Beavers, 42-29. Webster pressed Blackburn into a season-high 29 turnovers by an opponent on the season and had 12 steals.
Webster is now 4-5 in the SLIAC and 7-9 overall with the win.
The Gorloks are home on January 24 as they host Westminster College at Grant Gymnasium. The team has a week off before it travels to Jacksonville, IL, to take on MacMurray College on January 31.
