Golden Eagles Soar Over Gorloks, 69-41

Box Score Facing a tough test against the league's first place team, Webster University women's basketball lost to Spalding University (KY), 69-41, on February 16 at Grant Gymnasium.  The Golden Eagles pulled to an early lead and coasted to victory.
 
Spalding took a 10-0 lead in the opening minutes of the contest, but the Gorloks settled down and started putting points on the board to trail, 24-10, with 9:00 left in the half.  The teams traded baskets for the duration of the session and Webster trailed, 35-20, at the intermission.
 
The Gorloks shot only 19% from the field (4-21) in the first half, with the Golden Eagles shooting at a 42% (13-31) clip.  In the second half, Spalding gradually increased its lead to 50-29, with 13:45 left in the contest.  Webster cut into the lead but weren't able to seriously challenge Spalding for the remainder of the contest.
 
Webster wound up shooting 21% (10-48) on the evening with Spalding at 39% (24-61) on the evening.   The Golden Eagles dominated on the boards, holding a 52-28 advantage in the contest.
 
Mia Williams (JR, St. Louis, MO/Hazelwood West HS) was the leading scorer for Webster with 10 points.  Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) had a team-high six rebounds for the Gorloks, and added five points.  Cassie Endicott (SR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) had six blocks for the night.

The Webster 2014 baseball and volleyball teams were honored for their fine seasons at halftime of the women's game.

Webster falls to 6-10 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and 9-14 overall.  Spalding improves to 16-1 in the SLIAC and 19-4 overall.  The Gorloks host Eureka College on February 21, in the season's final home game.  It is Senior Day and the Gorloks' lone senior, Cassie Endicott, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
