Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team ground out a 60-56 win over Eureka College on February 21 at Grant Gym. The Gorloks took command in the first half and finished with a much need victory.
A Mia Williams (JR, St. Louis, MO/Hazelwood West HS) three-pointer with 26 seconds remaining in the game secured the win for Webster. After leading, 34-21 at the half, Eureka pulled to within eight, 39-31, with 14:10 in the second half. Webster extended its lead to 54-41 on a Danielle Meadows (SO, Centralia, IL/Centralia HS) three-pointer with 5:30 left.
A Eureka 11-0 run pulled them to within two, at 54-52, with 2:25 remaining in the contest. A basket and a pair of free throws by the Red Devils knotted it up, 56-56, with 54 seconds on the clock. As the 30 second clock was expiring on the Gorloks' possession, Williams hit her game winning basket. Eureka missed a three-point attempt with seven seconds left and Webster secured the win.
Webster came out running in the first half, taking a 14-3 lead at 14:30 in the first half. A Williams' three-pointer gave Webster a 17-5 lead at 8:50. Eureka clawed back to 19-13, only to see the Gorloks go on a -7-2 run, building the lead back up to 26-15 with 3:40 left in the half. A pair of Cassie Endicott (SR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) jumpers made it 32-17, and Webster entered the locker room up 34-21.
Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) led the way for the Gorloks in the half with 14 points as Webster shot 58% (15-26) as a team. Webster also outrebounded Eureka, 18-12, for the half. Webster wound up shooting 47% (24-51) for the game, hitting eight of 13 (62%) three-point attempts.
Brooks finished with a game-high 16 points, on 7-15 shooting, and had four rebounds and three assists. Williams wound up with nine points, going 3-3 from beyond the arc. Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) hit double figures with 13 points.
Endicott finished with a double-double, with 12 points, a team-high 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Endicott moved into a tie for 9th place on Webster's all-time scoring list with 869 total points. Endicott tied fellow team mate Courtney Pursley (2010-14) who had 869.
Endicott was honored in a pre-game ceremony as the Gorloks' lone senior for 2014-15.
Webster is now 7-10 in the SLIAC and 10-14 overall with the victory. The Gorloks travel to Greenville College (IL) on February 24 for their final regular season contest.
