Gorloks Comeback Falls Short in 53-50 Loss

Box Score An exciting push in the final minute wasn't enough as the Webster University women's basketball team lost, 53-50, at Greenville College (IL) on February 24.  The Gorloks scored eight straight points in under a minute to get within one of the Panthers, but just missed pulling off the comeback.

Webster trailed, 51-42, with 1:10 left in the contest but a three pointer by Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) made it 51-45.  Mia Williams (JR, St. Louis, MO/Hazelwood West HS) almost single-handedly engineered a comeback when she first hit a long three-pointer with 36 seconds remaining to make it 51-48.

Williams then stole a Panther pass as they tried to run the clock out and took it in for a layup to pull the Gorloks within one, 51-50.  After a Webster foul, Greenville hit both free throw to go back up by three and a Williams three-pointer with two second left just missed the mark.

The Gorloks trailed, 28-20 at the half.   Webster shot just 8-29 (28%) for the period.  Greenville maintained its advantage throughout the second half before the Gorloks last minute heroics almost stole the game.

Webster had only 11 turnovers in the contest but were outrebounded, 41-27 as the Panthers controlled the boards.

Williams came off the bench to wind up with a team-high 15 points on 6-11 shooting, including 3-8 from beyond the arc.  Brooks, a guard, had 14 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a team-high four steals.  Taylor Lucas (FR, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) came off the bench to score 10 points, on 5-7 shooting, and had three rebounds and two blocks.

Cassie Endicott (SR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) had four points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots for the night.

The game marked the final appearance for four-year starter Endicott.  She averaged 11.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season and for her career will go down as one of the top centers for the Gorloks.  Endicott is the Webster career leader in blocked shots for Webster with 236, and holds the single season record as well.  She finished ninth in career points at 873, sixth in rebounds, eighth in free throws made, and fourth in games started.  Endicott played in 90 games and started 87 of them.  Endicott was also the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2012 and was named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team in 2012 and 2014

Webster ends the season with a 7-11 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and an overall record of 10-15.
