OWENSBORO, Ky. - For the third time this season, Webster University freshman
Colton Vaughn (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro) was the Gorloks top finisher as he placed 23rd overall here Saturday at the 2018 Fast Cats Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College and held at Yellow Creek Park.
Vaughn, who was Webster's top finisher at its first two meets this season, ran the 8K course at Yellow Creek Park in a time of 28:26 to finish inside the Top 25 in his third meet this season. Vaughn's time was the seventh fastest 8K time this season run by a Gorlok.
Vaughn's finish helped the Gorloks score a total of 270 points to finish 11th out of 16 teams at the event. Webster finished 29 points in front of 12th place Cincinnati Christian (299 points) and 27 points behind 10th place Indiana-Kokomo, who scored 243 points.
Campbellsville took home the team title on Saturday with 67 points as they were 17 points in front of runner-up Cumberland (Tenn.), who score 84 points. Trevecca Nazarene was third with 108 points and Kentucky Wesleyan was fourth with 122 points.
Cumberlands' Lucas Huelvan was the top overall finisher as he ran the 8K course in a time of 26:06. Freed-Hardeman's Tyler Alverson was the top finishing individual among the teams competing at the meet as he ran a time fo 26:21 to place second overall.
In addition to Vaughn, freshman
Eli Guzman (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) was Webster's next finisher as he ran an 8K time of 29:27 to place 48th overall.
Sophomore
Nathan Freyling (Fenton, Mo./Fox) placed 65th overall on Saturday as he ran the 8K course in a time of 30:21 to be Webster's No. 3 finisher.
Junior
Abram Donovan (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) was 74th overall as he posted an 8K time of 30:38, while junior
Jordan Benton (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North) ran a time of 31:08 to finish in 88th place overall.
Webster's final finisher on Saturday was freshman
Javier Cervantes (Garden City, Kan./Garden City) posted an 8K time of 31:14 to place 92nd overall in the field of 152 competitors.
The Gorloks will return to action next Saturday, Oct. 13 as they travel to Elsah, Ill., to compete at the Cowbell Classic hosted by Principia College and held at Principia's North Farm Cross Country Facility. The Cowbell Classic will represent the final regular season meet for the Gorloks.
