ST. LOUIS - Webster University senior
Donalda Desir (Naples, Fla./Lely) has been named this week's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
It is the third time in the last four weeks that Webster has earned the SLIACÂ Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor as sophomore
Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) was honored on March 26 and senior
Meghan Illig (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) earned the honor on April 2.Â
Desri who earns her first career SLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week honor, was named this week's week's fourth Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolade after tallying 15 points for the Gorloks at this past Saturday's Greenville Select Invitational. At the Greenville Select Invitational, Desir competed in three events and placed in the Top 6 in all three of those events. In the 400-meter dash, she placed second with a time of 59.92 seconds, which is the best time among SLIAC runners this outdoor season and was 11-hundredths off of her school record time of 59.81 set in 2016 at Missouri S&T, finished fifth in the 200 meter dash with a school season best time of 26.45 and was a member of the school's 4-x-100 meter relay team that ran a season best time of 50.35 to place sixth overall.Â
Her three performances helped the Gorloks place sixth out of 17 teams at the Greenville Select Invitational with a total of 49.75 points to finish 5.25 points in front of seventh place Missouri Baptist (44 points) and 17.25 points behind fifth place Millikin, who scored 67 points.Â
Meanwhile, the league named Fontbonne sophomore Emily Bay as the SLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Bay earns this week's Field Athlete of the Week accolade after competing in five events and recording three personal bests at last weekend's Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational. At the event, Bay was third in the javelin (100-00), which is the third best distance in the league this spring. In addition, she had personal bests in the hammer throw and discus and also competed in the shot put, 4-x-100 meter and 4-x-400 meter relays.Â
Desir and the Gorlok women's outdoor track and field team will close out the regular season this coming Saturday, April 21 as they travel to Rolla, Mo., to compete in the Missouri S&T Dewey Allgood Invitational.
