GRINNELL, Iowa - Webster University junior
Kalleigh Linthicum (Lake St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) continued her strong 2019 season here Saturday as she placed fifth overall at the Les Duke Invitational held at the Grinnell College Golf Course to help the Gorloks to a fifth place finish out of 11 teams at the event hosted by Grinnell College.
Linthicum ran the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:59.4 to earn her second straight Top 10 finish this season and her fourth career Top 10 finish. Linthicum opened the 2019 season with a 10th place finish at the season opening WIU Early Bird Invitational on Aug. 30.Â
At the Les Duke Invitational, Webster tallied a total of 126 points to finish 23 points in front of sixth place Graceland University (149 points) and was 20 points behind fourth place Central College, who scored a total of 106 points. NCAA Division II school Truman State won the team title as they put five runners in the Top 10 and scored a total of 31 points, while host Grinnell was second as they scored 55 points after having two runners place in the Top 10.
Webster was one of two St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams that competed at the Les Duke Invitational as Principia competed and placed in eighth place as the Panthers scored 223 points.Â
Coe's Kat Stai was the meet's individual champion as she ran the 6K course in a time of 23:37.6 to finish nearly nine seconds in front of runner-up, Emily Harl of Truman State, who recorded a time fo 23:45.7.Â
In addition to Linthicum, freshman
Danielle Schultz (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) placed 22nd overall with a 6K time of 25:26.5 in her second collegiate meet and first collegiate 6K event.Â
Sophomore
Taylor Dunning (Chester, Ill./Chester) was the third finisher on Saturday for the Gorloks as she ran a 6K time of 25:36.0 to place 24th overall, while senior
Meredith Sowers (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) finished 43rd overall with a 6K time of 26:52.5.Â
Webster's fifth runner on Saturday was sophomore
Megan Bartz (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) as she ran the 6K course in a time of 27:15.2 to finish 49th overall.Â
The final two scoring runners for the Gorloks were senior
Savannah Brewer (Flagstaff, Ariz./Coconino) as she a 6K time of 27:44.6 to place 64th overall and sophomore
Cora Reed (Manchester, Mo./Parkway South) was 65th overall after running a career best 6K time of 27:52.1.Â
The final four finishers for the Gorloks placed in order from 68th to 98th place overall as senior
Jessica Phibbs (Vancouver, Wash./Mountain View) ran a 5K time of 27:59.9 to place 68th, while graduate student
Colleen Gosser (St. Louis, Mo./Fontbonne) was 77th with a 6K time of 28:34.4, sophomore
Lindsay Poitras (Imperial, Mo./Fox) was 79th with a 6K time of 28:45.8 and freshman
Micah Barnes (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) was 98th with a 6K time of 30:05.6.Â
Webster will now take two weeks off before returning to action on Friday, Sept. 27 as they travel to Decatur, Ill., to compete in the H.W. Wright Classic hosted by Millikin University.Â
