DECATUR, Ill. – Webster University Men's Cross Country was led by freshman standout
Cameron Sakuma (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) for the third consecutive meet here Friday evening at the H.W. Wright Classic hosted by Millikin University at the former Scovill Golf Course.
The Gorloks competed for the third time in the 2019 season and placed fourth out of nine teams scoring 113 points finishing nine points behind third place Mineral Area College (104 points) and 35 points ahead of fifth place St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe, Principia College (148 points).
Millikin University won the meet putting four runners in the Top 10 en route to a team score of 30 points to take home first place. Rose-Hulman finished just eight points behind Millikin to finish second at the event.
Sakuma, who placed 10th at Friday's H.W. Wright Classic, has now had two Top 10 finishes on the season as he was seventh at the Western Illinois Early Bird Invite on Aug. 30. At the H.W. Wright Classic, Sakuma ran the 8,000-meter course in a time of 28:30.5.
In addition to Sakuma, junior
Nathan Freyling (Fenton, Mo./Fox) ran for the first time this season and was the second finisher for the Gorloks placing 24th with a time of 29:41.2. Freshman
Kaelin Triggs (St. Louis, Mo./Mehlville) was the third finisher placing 25th while running a personal best time in the 8K race in 29:48.4.
Sophomore
Javier Cervantes (Garden City, Kan./Garden City) was the fourth highest finisher placing 39th while running the 8,000-meter course in 31:01.2 and senior
Abram Donovan (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) was the fifth Gorlok to cross the finish line at 51st with a time of 32:05.7.
The last two scoring runners were freshman
Gabriel Ayers (Bonne Terre, Mo./Saint Paul Lutheran), who placed 55th and ran a time of 32:46.1 and freshman
Christian Gray (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) rounded out the Gorloks as he placed 69th completing the race in 35:47.3.
The Gorloks will return to competition in three weeks at the Kollege Town Sports Invitational hosted by the University of the Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday, Oct. 19th in Winneconne, Wis.
