WEBSTER GROVES – In today's third Tuesday Top 5, which delves into some of the top five statistical lists in the history of Webster University Athletics, we look at one of the most impressive career marks in the 21-year history of the women's soccer program. These statistical lists are based on actual rankings by the statistic or category listed with information on each of those student-athletes in the Top 5 rankings.
Today's Tuesday 5 looks at the Top 5 totals in career points scored (goals + assists) in Webster University women's soccer. Four of the five career marks were set before 2011, including the school record mark of 223 points (88 goals, 47 assists) that was set by Christy Capkovic from 2007-10. This group of five Gorloks accounted for a total of 820 points, including scoring a total of 303 goals and tallying 214 assists during their playing careers for the Gorloks. Additionally, all five of the players tallied 130 or more points in their careers.
Christy Capkovic (20017-10) – 223 points … In her four years as Gorlok, Capkovic rewrote the school's women's soccer record book as along with scoring a school record mark of 223 points, she also holds the school's all-time records for points per game (2.79), goals (88), goals per game (1.10), shots (424), shots per game (5.30) and game winning goals (16). Capkovic, who was a senior in 2010, tallied 40 or more points all four seasons, including a school single season record 78 points in 2009 when she scored a school record 33 goals and added 12 assists. She was a four-time First-Team All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, a Second-Team NSCAA All-Regional selection and a CoSIDA Academic All-American selection in 2010. She began her career in 2007 with 59 points as she had 22 goals and 15 assists and then tallied 41 points on 15 goals and 11 assists in 2008. After her record setting 2009 campaign, Capkovic, who has been inducted into both the SLIAC and Webster Athletics Hall of Fame, closed out her career with 45 points on 18 goals and nine assists in 2010. Her 223 points are second most in SLIAC history, while her 88 goals and 47 assists are second and sixth respectively on the SLIAC's all-time charts. In 2009, she led Division III women's soccer in both points per game (3.90) and goals per game (1.65).
Megan Niederschulte (2007-10) – 157 points … Like Capkovic, Niederschulte played at Webster from 2007-10 and her four years as a Gorlok, she scored a total of 157 points, which is second in school history and seventh on the SLIAC's career list. In her time, she recorded 58 career goals, which is tied for second in school history and had 41 assists, which is third most in program history. She was a four-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors in 2010. In addition, she was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team in 2010. Niederschulte tallied 30 or more points in three seasons, including recording 53 points in 2009 thanks to 22 goals and nine assists. The 53 points are tied for seventh on the school's single season point chart, while her 22 goals that same year are tied for fifth on the single season charts. She was inducted into the Webster Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 and combined with Capkovic to score 146 career goals, record 88 career assists and total 380 points.
Niki Martinez (2000-02) – 156 points … In the early years of the women's soccer program, Niki Martinez set the first record for career points as she tallied 156 from 2000-02. Martinez tallied 35 or more points in all three seasons as a Gorlok, including a then single season school record of 62 points in 2001. Along with her 156 points, she scored 58 career goals, which is tied for second most in the program's history and had 40 assists, which is fourth on the all-time chart. In 2000, she had 55 points as she tallied 19 goals and 17 assists, while recording those 62 points on 23 goals and 16 assists in 2001 and scoring 39 points in 2002 on 16 goals and seven assists. Her 156 points are eighth on the SLIAC career scoring chart. Martinez, who was inducted into the both the SLIAC and Webster Athletics Hall of Fame, was a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC selection and was named the SLIAC Newcomer and Player of the Year in 2000 and earned the SLIAC Player of the Year accolade in 2002. Additionally, she was a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection.
Melissa Kasper (2016-19) – 150 points … The only player on the career points chart that played for the Gorloks after 2010 is Kasper, who was senior in 2019. During her four year career, she scored a total of 150 points as she tallied 48 career goals and set a school record for career assists with 54. She tallied 30 or more points over her final three seasons, including totaling 53 points on 17 goals and a single season school record 19 assists in 2018. As a senior in 2019, she had 45 points on 14 goals and 17 assists. Along with holding the school's career mark for assists (54) and is fourth in career points (150), Kasper is fifth in career points per game (1.81) and sixth in career goals (48). As a Gorlok, Kasper was a four-time All-SLIAC selection, including a three-time First-Team All-SLIAC honoree (2017, 2018, 2019) and was the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Year in both 2018 and 2019 and was two-time All-Region selection. Kasper is one of four players in school history to score 40 career goals, record 45 career assists and tally 150 career points.
Mary Jo Clark (1999-02) – 134 points … Clark played on the first four women's soccer teams in school history and in those first four seasons, she scored a total of 134 points, which is fifth on the school's all-time list, but was second when she graduated. In her time, she tallied 40 or more points twice, including 50 points on 19 goals and 12 assists in 2000. Those 50 points were third best in school history at the time and are now ninth all-time in program history. Also scored 43 points in 2001 as she had 19 goals and five assists. Clark is one of four players in the program's history to record 130 points, score 50 goals and tally 30 assists in her career. Along with being fifth in career points, she is tied for first in career game winning goals (16), fourth in career goals scored (51) and sixth in career points per game (1.74). Was a four-time All-SLIAC selection, including earning first team honors in 2000 and 2001 and was also a four-year team captain.
